ok about two weeks ago i replaced the head gasket and the time belt. i lined up the marks on the cams and on the crank. so yesterday took the car out just driveing i went to pass my brother. right as i pass 6k rpms it back fired. i shifted in to forth the rpms droped to 4k and it didnt back fire again. it only back fires after 6k would the crank being out timing by one touth cause it to do this.

If your posting about possible timing issues and think it may be a problem then chances are the timing is off. On my previous 420 car I had the crank retarded one tooth and it was very doggy huge power loss. I pull the cover and sure enough one tooth off. Its very hard to get everything lined up by yourself if you havent done this a few times. As for backfiring im not sure. If your not throwing any CEL I would start with your hunch.

Im not going to go through the trouble of reading through your list of mods etc to figure out what else could be causing it. Try posting a good engine bay pic its sometimes easier to spot the culprit if its something simple

it throw a cel but the guy who sold me the car messed with the wireing to the cluster so it is hard to go buy the cel but i gess it wouldnt hurt ot hook a scaner up to it just see if i can pull any codes

If he took out the bulb then a scanner will still indicate if theres a code set. I didnt drive mine long enough to see if it would throw a light. I knew the problem when I left the shop.

Just for the record if you have an hour or so why not just check it for piece of mind? It doesnt take that long to do on the 420a

the bulbs still there but your right im going to check it

Sorry to bring up this old thread again but I have found that somehow the hose that goes
to the evap solenoid could cause the problem that I described above, the reason I ask is because I thought it would cause more of a problem at a lower rpm range but I don't know that much about the evap system I know it has to be fixed but I just want to know.:confused: please help
