Total noob question, (yes I searched) but what is the correct orientation of the thermostat on a 6bolt? I.E. Which way do I clock the air bleeder valve on it? My Hayness manual just says to note it before removing it...big help hayness. (I didn't note it obviously)

Set it in with the spring part facing down like mentioned above, and then you can turn it counter clockwise 'till it stops.

I believe there is a groove it kinda slides into if that makes sense..Worked for me..

...I know the spring goes down. I am asking about how it is "clocked" far as the air bleed valve. It sounds like the air bleed valve should facethe far side of the housing, away/farthest from the engine?

It won't really matter. It's a difference of a half-inch, and as soon as the coolant starts moving the turbulence is going to make any bubbles find the hole. Once the thermostat cracks open, either the jiggle valve or the divot in the side of the valve seat is so small as to not be relevant.

On applications where the thermostat sits vertical, it doesn't matter on the piddle valve. It is just there to allow any built up gases to escape so the cooling system does not vapor lock before the thermostat reaches operating temperature and opens up. It also helps to make sure that the thermostat bottom is in contact with the hot water so it opens properly instead of being trapped in an insulating pocket of air. On applications where the thermostat is installed horizontally then the piddle valve goes to the top.
