Gasket orientation

I'm trying to resolve this oil leak problem I have and came across this issue I wasn't 100% on. Which way does this gasket face or does it matter?

Not just this gasket but alot of oem gaskets have this " line" which I believe is silicone.

Is this for the turbo or oil pan side? I tried using a new OEM gasket for the pan side and it leaked like a sieve even with new OEM bolts torqued to spec. I gave up and used Permatex Ultra Grey which is what I used on the pan itself too. Doesn't leak a drop. If you're having issues with the oil return leaking at the pan, I recommend using Permatex or an equivalent.

I've used them both ways with no issue.

What is important on the oil pan is using the correct bolts with their corresponding washers.

Its for the oil pan side. I have new washers and bolts. I just can't seem to get it to seal properly.

I'll give it another shot in the morning. I only have two gaskets left, gotta make this next one count.

My other option is to use an FP return line. That's more flexible might help out. I didn't want to take it off that turbo just to get this thing to pass inspection.

I cut out the flex section of the stock drain pipe and replace it with oil line and clamps. Takes the stress off so everything lines up and seals nice.
