I want to completely remove my thermostat. I have my reasons, so before the soap box is pulled out and dusted off, it is only temporary so I can idle the car, circulate cleaner through the system and flush.

I have a new thermostat on hand to install once everything has been flushed. How do I go about sealing the thermostat housing without a thermostat in place? I'd rather punch a huge hole in the old thermostat and re-install rather then use silicone, however if there is an easier method I am all ears.

Use a paper gasket, or some rtv since it will be temporary.

Alot of the flush additives need to get up to temo to work properly, but it all depends on what you use. Is flushing the only reason you want to do this?

The car sat since 2008. The cooling system has been stagnant for nearly that long and has a considerable amount of build up. It is worth the effort add additives, circulate and have a full-flow flush with out the inhibiting thermostat in place.
