so i've been on here for like 20 min looking for an answer to my questions and found none,
maybe i should introduce myself quick

my name is victor
i am 18 years old
i guess you could say i'm a noob
i live in madison, WI
i just sold my 1999 eclipse GS
that i've had for 1 year
had a 95 GS before that:notgood:

and looking to get a 2Gb GSX or GST
as a daily driver
buuut i dont know which one:confused:
i've always said i wanted a GSX
but i dont know anymore
i have $5000 to use but i want to make the right decision
I want either a stock GSX or GST, 5-speed

i want to know if anyone can answer these questions for me

I know living in wisconsin, it snows a lot so i thought the GSX would be better
but...
what is the gas mileage on both cars? city and highway
what numbers am i looking for when i do the compression test?
what should i look for when checking out a GSX or GST
which one breaks down the least?
are there any signs of crankwalk besides when its too late and your f!@#ed:cry:
is a 2g eclipse with a 6 bolt swap really better?

take in consideration that the only mods i will do will be FMIC, AEM Intake, Exhaust and NGR type-S BOV and the car wont be going to the track, at least not in a few years.
only occasional friday night racing and cruising once a month maybe
Any help would be appreciated
i apologize if the questions were already answered multiple times
thanks.

I would say go for the gsx due to its rarety. Better take-off and handling. When you go buy a dsm inspect the timing belt, if it's an awd look for leaks around the transfer case, and when you test drive the car, when turning left press the clutch down and check to make sure it doesn't stay down, if it sticks down this may be a sign of crankwalk.
Aem doesn't make intakes for our cars but i believe you can find cheap intakes on ebay or extrempsi.com that are pretty much the same quality for half the price of the name brand intakes.
As for the swap, if your motor is in good working order why waste your money on it ? If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Gas mileage should be around 18mpg on street and 25-ish highway.
Neither the gst or the gsx will break down the least, it all depends on how well the car was taken care of and how YOU will take care of it that will determine its reliability.
Good luck and happy hunting.

There's no right or wrong answer for this. It depends all on you. Personally I'm fine with my FWD. Others will emphasis they like AWD better.

If you leave a FWD bone stock, you will be able to get pretty decent traction with really good tires. I had my eclipse in fwd mode for a while and it sucked not being able to get on the throttle until 3rd gear even with the boost down to 17psi. It did get really good mileage having to take it so easy in town though - 19-20mpg on e85 in town is pretty good I think. Smoking the tires by just flooring it at 60mph is fun but gets old.

sweet thanks for your help,
i just hear a lot of people saying that DSM's are the reason they are poor
because they keep replacing parts and blah blah blah
so if i just drive it normally and maybe do like a street light race here and there
i should be fine?
the 420A eclipse's i had before i always street raced people and i never had to replace anything, although they werent that fast i beat on them like crazy

i am looking at this stock 98 eclipse GSX in chicago but it has a rebuilt title
the dude says he bought it like that and it was due to a side collision on its front passenger side, everything was replaced and re painted
he says nothing mechanically was damaged
and car runs fine
is it worth it?

anything i should look for if i go see it?
anything i should avoid?

thanks for everything

1. Even mentioning street racing is not allowed. It's stupid and it's dangerous. I don't want one of you broadsiding my car at 3am because you're doing 125 in a 35.
2. FMIC on a stock turbo is just for looks. It really won't help you much.
3. If you can measure the crankwalk, it's too late. That's the only way to know you have crankwalk. It's not as widespread as a problem as people think.
4. Since the main reason for you wanting a DSM seems to be to beat people in street races, get a GST so you won't take another GSX off the road when you crash it.

GSX. I got my car for 5 grand and it had a new paint job and an Alpine sound system. You should be able to find a kick ass 2G GSX for 5 grand.
