The Truth About a GOOD Paint Job

Those pictures are around one month after I got it done. I haven't noticed any flaking or anything but I do have chips from rocks hitting my car. I got a fat one on my roof that I didn't know of. I think it happened one day when I was driving to work and all of a sudden I hear this loud BAP! noise that scared the hell out of me cause I had no idea what the hell it was. Just two days ago I noticed there was so that's what I think caused it.

If I could I would take some recent pictures but our digital camera isn't working...bro dropped it.

When yuo're paying for a paint job you're paying for labor. Paint itself, unless you're buying crazy paint is not expensive. You're paying for the time it takes to prep the car.

I did all the prep work on a 2.5RS I'm repairing, and had it sprayed for approx $500 with paint included. Ignore the fact that we're friends with the guy, but he's still coming out with some money :)

Before you say he's a crappy painter, he painted the winner of best paint at NOPI a few years back :p

if you date the bodyshops owners daughter like myself did then i have my entire car painted a new color for $2,000, and im having it repainted a different orange for $1,300 hes also fixing every blimish that has happenend over the winter.. ;] just some words of advice hehe

All I really am trying to say is that I will hold my cars factory paint job up against any macco job! ANY MACCO JOB!. And as far as Whether or not someone is a crapy painter I dont even remember saying anything about a crapy painter.

Those things on his bumper are fogs it looks like! ?

oh yeah I guess I just got all excited about how bad Maaco sucks that I forgot how to spell it!

Anyways Earl Schieb is the exact same thing. They actually use PPG paints though so a lot of time there paint jobs come out a little better

Sorry bout the spelling ! :)

I think you may over-estimate how much some of care about our 1g's sir.

Im not going to spend anything over 1000 bucks on my 91 tsi awd that is worth about 1200 bucks to the insurance company.

If i had a 2g, it'd be different. No sense in trying to spend 3000 bucks to paint a 15 yr old car. unless it was sheps car. or a sick, sick, all out awesome 10 sec car.

I know someone who got an Earl Scheib job done on their SAAB a few years ago. He had it repainted the same color as before - Brown. It came out of the shop looking really ugly. Brown as a car color is ugly as it is, but Earl Scheib made it even uglier. It was a shop in San Gabriel valley somewhere.

thanks for the reply.Im still deciding on a macco or earl schieb.

Im not trying to say that ALL people are needing a 3000 paint job im especially you 1g owners. I am simply saying that on these boards it seems that a lot of people think that the paint is of good quality. Thats all! Im not trying to tell you guys to go down to the nearest body shop and get your car re worked so that I will like it. Im simply trying to let people know that it often comes out looking bad from shops like MAACO and Earl Schieb.
