Picked this gem up about a month and a half ago from a guy up in Greensboro, NC. He was the second owner and had obtained it from the original owners estate sale. The car was a little rough around the edges but it ran good and I took a chance and picked it up. Since then I’ve just been focusing on the maintenance aspects of it. The car sat for 5 years before the guy I bought it from brought it back to life. He put a new fuel tank in it, had the computer redone by ecmlink and changed all the fluids in the car.

So I started where he lift off. I took the car around the block a couple of times trying to find anything I could wrong with it to begin making my list. These are the first things I have done to the car so far...

-Tires (just some cheap tires for the stock wheels)
-Front brake conversion (92+ brake calipers, rotors and pads; the left front stock one was seized)
-Spark plugs and plug wires (for obvious reasons)
-EGR and emissions delete (cleaned up and decluttered the engine bay)
-Oil change (another no brainer)
-Fix oil filter housing leak (removed the existing mechanical gauge and replaced it with a pressure sensor and electronic gauge)
-Replace gauges (along with the oil pressure gauge a wide band and a proper boost gauge)
-Wiper blades (got to see)
-Rear hatch struts (to heavy to hold up with sheer will while I load the groceries)

It’s now currently in the body shop getting a fresh coat of paint, while it’s in the shop I’m going to do a little bit of parts collecting so that when it gets out I will have some work to do. The plans for it when it gets out...

Timing belt and water pump
Rear pads and rotors
Lug studs
Intermittent Idle surge (diaged to be the isc)
Rebuild drive shaft (the center shaft bearings are very sloppy)
Lower ball joints (passenger side is loose so I’m gonna do both sides; doing the full arms )
Wheel bearings (passenger side is making a bit of noise, again I’m doing both sides)
Inner and outer tie rod ends (no play but the boots are busted so only a matter of time)

I’m excited to continue this build for sure, I’m anxious now that it’s not in my yard when I walk out in the morning, but I’m excited to get it back with that great coat of paint on it as well. The next plans after I do those things is to get the driver seat leather repaired. Gonna keep it close to stock looking as possible for now.

The main goal for this build is to revive this old tired dsm, and build a car that’s fun in just about any setting. I don’t want to make the car extremely fast, or to be a show car. I just want a car that’s as fun stop light to stop light as it is cruising the back roads.

I’ll keep up to date post on the paint job as it goes along.
