how much do you think i could get for my car. its a 1996 gsx 5 speed. 105k on body 15k on motor. has a new clutch, turbo, timing belt job, water pump, and ignition components. car is bone stock

so u offered 4k? well it all depends i guess if it has money put into or not or if its been well maintaned and looks excellent. thats when prices jump.

Well i had originaly posted in a different thread, but im interested in the same car your looking at. LOL

Yes im in wisconsin. Im havin a hard time finding what im lookin for a Red loaded Gsx A/c, cruse power window lock ect. lots have been stripped. But lots of prices seem inflated.

so im talking to this guy that is selling a 1990 GSX. he says the engine is in perfect condition apart from some hoses needing to be changed, but he says the body could use some work like a paint job because the paint is fading. He said the car has 80k miles too, do you think this is worth it if i get it for 1600? he is asking 3000 but ill try to get it for around that. He said because of that hose problem it wont full boost, could that be the problem? do you think it could just be a boost leak? but i dont think so cause he said he has owned many dsms and if he has experience he could fix something like a little boost leak. he also said the power steering is leaking a little bit and it needs new struts. just wanna see what your opinons are on this, its pretty far so i wanted to get some insight before i actually go to see the car

Well, if he is not hitting full boost there must be some kind of leak. I remember having a major leak before it did not hit full boost and it struggle until the leak was fix I was able to drive it without any problems.

Kbb doesn't really account for tuner cars. And you are basically cutting his price in half which is an extremely low lowball.

Ive been into dsm's for some time but never owned one. I just found one cheep and i didnt know if it was worth picking up or if i should wait till something better comes along. Its a 92 Eclipse fwd non turbo. It has 166000 miles on it. It has a new clutch and tires. Its a good running car but i didnt know if that is a lot of miles for a 92 or its its worth the 900 bux. Thanks for helping out a newbie :)

keep savin your cash bro.. wait for a talon or eclipse with a turbo so you dont have to go throught the painful process of turboing a n/t..

Well, if you're super picky like me, I really wanted the car to be awd turbo. So I waited to find my talon, which I own now.
I wouldn't waste my time on any N/T DSM, no offense to those who own them, but it takes a lot to get these cars going. But it also depends. Is this a DD? What are your goals? And you don't really need an awd car. But its nice to have!

Are the 1g non turbo fwd's not really worth getting? I plan on using it as a daily drive around town car that i will slowly put $ into. Id love to get a turbo one but its harder to find one around my parts.

Is it the original engine? 166K is a lot for a dsm motor, anyone I've talked to that has around that mileage or more, has had their engine replaced at some point. I'm not saying all dsm motors don't last, some make it past the 200K mark with no major problems, but certainly not the majority of them.
Also, if you want something that you can build a lot of power with, a Non turbo is not the best choice. Non turbos are good for 3 things, better gas mileage, cheaper insurance, and arguebly better throttle response.
If you want power potential, then like I say just pick up a turbo model. Some people will tell you that you can pick one up for the $900 you have, but that's gonna get you nothing but a lemon. $1500 to $2000 will get you a nice running 1G turbo in decent shape, just make sure to ask lots of questions and get receipts if possible.

Okay, so I just checked out a 1995 GSX with 81111 original miles. Guy had the motor rebuilt by a certified DSM mechanic and is asking $5500 negotiable. Car is black with extremely faded paint on both rear quarters and roof. It has the infinity sound system and no tears in the leather. Body is in real good shape aside from regular paint paint chips on hood and front bumper. Don't want to lowball too bad but I know the car isn't worth the $5,500 he's asking. I was thinking $4,800 as a fair offer being that I would need to repaint the car at a minimum. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I just want to make sure I don't spend more than I should.

Im thinking about buying a car and i just need some opinions.
First off the car is not running and i need to know if its worth buying. Its a '92 gsx. 6 bolt/ 4 bolt rear combo. The owner tried to do a timing belt on it and either didn't time it right or it jumped time. If the head is junk i can easily get another. The turbo has lots of side to side play so it will need a new turbo. The car has been sitting for a while and the owner sold the valve cover, injectors, and throttle body. The car is sitting on jack stands without wheels but I have another set of 1g wheels. Also included with the car is a sweet plastic wing or spoiler type thing that goes on the top of the hatch. Ive never seen a dsm with this.
Anyway, the guy is asking 600. Is it worth it? Taking any comments.
Thanks

How rusted is the body? Do you have enough knowledge and free time to actually finish this project? Do you have a budget big enough for the parts you will require? Most importantly, do you have the dedication required to fix this vehicle?
