2g 7-bolt motors are just as strong as long as they don't crankwalk. If anybody wants to say the rods are weaker, what do you think are in the Evo VIII?

Looks like a good deal to me as long as the rust isn't too bad. Sounds like you will want to get some new syncros put in the tranny soon though.

Id also try to get a car close to stock, that's if you want to work on the car and build it yourself and know what was done to it. get a close to stock car rebuild the motor get to know it and begin to add mods. If U get a highly modded car U wont have much 2 do to it. But u might not wana work on the car. So Id say I agree with befast I dun see any fun in buying a car that U can't grow with and see the horsepower that YOU put into it helps u appreciate the car more.

I just got my GSX about a month ago form a guy in Portland for $3000. completely stock, and only 110k original miles. Its in PERFECT Condition! its so sick... you just gotta wait man. a car is a big deal unless you got money to spend.

Well if everything goes smoothly, I might be cruisin in a white '96 TSi AWD. I definitely like doing mods myself but...I want a car faster than the one I have ('02 SVT Focus). The SVT handles really well, but it just has bolt-ons and custom cams and it's not fast..."quick" if you want to call it that. Stock for stock, an AWD DSM is faster than my car, yes, but just by a bit. I want something *faster.* Thanks for all the input, though!

I would go with the 2g. Like odearo said, I wouldn't get a rebuilt car. I bought I camaro that had a salvage title because "the previous owner hit a deer and caused some slight damage." When I got the car and spent more time with it, it was pretty obvious that what had been fixed was more than slight damage. Also.. The 2g's price is pretty reasonable.. I wouldn't spend 5k on a salvaged 1g. You,ll have plenty of speed with the 2g if fast is what you're looking for. But if you really want to do mods yourself, i wouldnt go with either. Just wait and eventually you'll find a good stock 1 or 2g for a way better price.

Yeah, after thinking about the 1g more and more, it was pretty obvious it wasn't worth it. You have to remember that I'm coming from a car that runs mid to low 15's...so when I hopped in that 1g (didn't get to drive it) and the guy told me to put it in first and push the gas to see what launch control sounded like, I was hooked. But yeah, with no interior and rebuilt title with "slight damage," it kinda throws up red flags.

1500-2000? That seems fairly low.

I mean that is how much it is worth but the market demands more.

He is asking $3500. I know it is steep. But stock, good condition 1g eclipses are so rare these days that I can almost justify spending that much money.

I would lay down 2500 cash if its really nice. (it helps if you show them the cash in hundreds when you offer it.)

Oh and dont get beat up with that much money in your pocket.

I paid $3200 for my 1992 with 55,000 original miles on it last year. Hes asking way to much if you ask me. Right around $2000-2500 its what its worth.

It really depends on the physical condition as well. A friend of mine bought an absolutely mint example of a 1ga this summer and paid $5k. There was under 30k miles on it if I remember correctly. The paint was near perfect and the first thing he did was have 2 small imperfections fixed by the same guy who painted it a few years prior. It looks like it just rolled off the assembly line, with the Chrysler 7 year 100,000 mile warranty sticker still on the rear quarter glass. So, long story short, get us some pics!

man looks a lot like mine very clean look ask your self if its the car you want if it is pay what you will for the car i looked for 6 months for a bone stock awd 1g before i found the one iv got i paid over book for it because it was in great shape and well maintained and because it was what i wanted so if you want it bad enuff you will pay what it takes.

i would go back with 2500 , have a couple extra dollars on you just in case he turns you down. Thats a really clean 1g, good luck with it if u buy it.
