3500 not bad. But if it were me selling that and someone came up to me with 2500 cash. I'd sell. Its rare to see some pay straight cash these days. plus the paint has some imperfections in it. But that's to be expected.

I paid 2600 for my 93. had 90k and was completely stock. Seems like prices for these things went up a bit. I would say 2500-3000 is a reasonable price for it.

I would hold out for an awd. If you drive a fixed up awd and a fixed up fwd you'll notice a big difference. Thats a real nice and clean gst. but keep looking and you should be able to find an awd just as nice.

yea i would agree it took me 6 months to find my gsx but well worth the wait . its nice being able to launch at 3500 rpms and not spin

I would try 2500 but that's pretty low on what he's asking. 2800 seems real fair. offer 2800 give up 3 if he doesn't take that. That's my look on it..

Thats what im trying to figure out, it seems like a great deal. You think I should just sit out and wait till I find another in good condition?

Ive been looking at a 96 GST a guy has for sale for $2300. The interior is in good condition, the exterior is in fair condition. The problem with it is it leaks oil BAD. I drove up there to look at it and I saw antifreeze dripping from where the oil comes from. So im thinking its just a bad head gasket. But im worried about the possibility of a warped head. And the CEL is on. He is going to run it by Autozone in the next week to have the code run. I couldnt run a compression check because the car had a weak battery but he said its under warrenty and hell replace it for me. But I did run a vac check and its holding 15 inHG with just a slight tick in the needle but I would think thats the head gasket. So the engine is breathing just fine. I drove the car and its quick, solid, with no indication of a weak engine. So im thinking if its just some kind of o2 sensor, tps, or map and a head gasket it would be well worth it. What do you guys think?

It is really hard to rate a car without seeing it or knowing how many miles are on it, paint condition, how many mods it has, or if there's proof of preventative maintenance. Where is it leaking oil from? Is there coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant? You really should get a compression test and a leak-down test to find out what is going on here. I'd say $2300 with the information you've given is a bit high IMO.

Could be something major but could also be something simple. Have someone help you look at it, and go from there. But for $2300.00 you can probably look around and maybe find something running in great condition without any problems for like $3.000 or so.

Wow at least you guys give me info and help me instead of just yelling at me like our local forum. I looked at it and its leaking right where the head and block meet. The car only has 101,000 miles on it. The paint is ok except on the rear where the clear coat is pealing but im going to repaint it anyway. I really wanted to compression check it like I said but couldnt. But going by the vac it showed me that it still has relatively good compression if its holding 15. Kbb put it at $2600 so I would think that it would be pretty reasonable. And the kid did take care of the car. He just had all the belts replaced and timing belt. But he said that when his neighbor tightened the ps belt is when it started leaking. Im just thinking that it was bad timing for the head gasket. And that made it seem like whats what caused it.

And ive been looking for another dsm for about 4 months and this is the only one I have come across that is in my price range and not ridiculously over priced.

Have you checked the coolant for oil or the oil for coolant? From what you describe it seems like the HG is shot. Did he overheat the car? Otherwise, the head probably isn't warped. If that's the best you've seen in the area and you have the time to fix it, it might not be that bad.

Just your initial description made it sound like the car wasn't kept up.

I know how long the search for a DSM can take. Took 3 months to find mine.

If the head gasket is bad the compression will be low. Doing a compression test will not tell you if the head is warped. The only way to figure that out is to pull it and take it to a machinist. The vacuum readings during idle will also not tell you anything about the health of the head or short block.

A bad timing belt job will not contribute to the head gasket leaking. It COULD bend a valve. Which leads to:

The slight "tick" on the boost gauge at idle is worrying. If it is rythmic, it could be a sign of a bent intake valve. You can't decide that a motor is "breathing" healthily by looking at the vac readings during idle. Not to mention the fact that 15mm Hg is very low for a stock motor. Compression test should be able to tell you if the valve is screwed. It will be near 0.

I highly suggest waiting on that new battery and doing a compression test before you commit to buy. You could even hook up jumper cables from another car. You've waited this long already, no sense in jumping for something sub par.

I currently bought a 97 Eclipse GS n/a, it has 207k 2L DOHC
i wanna see your opinion
i bought the car for 500 $ but it had been hit on the drivers rear quarter..
it's a pretty big dent.
I need new shocks, get rear quarter fixed and new front bumper, new rear bumber,
and a new mirror
i don't know whether i should spend the money to get all that fixed or should i
just buy a new DSM? without all the problems..
Plus i don't think the engine will run much longer so that's an engine rebuild :(

Do you want a project or do you want a car that is in good condition already? That will help of decide.
