I was considering going to look at this vehicle and make the guy an offer. He does have paperwork for some of the work done. Does this sound like a good start to building a decent tuner? What do you think it might be running around at this point?

92 AWD Eagle Talon...
This car is well maintained and Just turned 100k. leather seats, power windows, heat and A\C... Here is a list of the parts that are on the car...

3" Racecore frontmount,
Full 3" ATR Exhaust,
3" Custom downpipe from Turbotrix racing,
Stainless steel o2 Housing with dumptube,
560cc Injectors,
Apexi AFC,
Wallbro 255 fuelpump,
2g mass air conversion,
2g exhaust manifold,
ACT 2600 clutch with an unsprung 6 puck disc,
and the Trans was done by Dogbox Racing.
 
did he supply you with some pictures?
that would help.

seems like he has done some homework though (fuel, tunning, exhaust, intake:thumb:), most DSM's you find arent upgraded properly, most people just throw a bigger turbo on and turn up the boost :notgood:

I had spoke to him about the car a bit back and his price was rather high but now he said he just wants it sold and very negotiable. I was trying to get an idea of what it would run and all so I know what I am working with. I am not familiar at all with the 1st gen.
i sold my 95 eclipse gst and this past march I sold my 05 Evo VIII and now have a new jeep and I am looking for a decent turboed vehicle that has a good start to it but has not been beat on.
 
well youve had a 2g and an Evo, so im sure your not unfamiliar with the 4g63 and how it should run...id def drive it before you offer him anything.

Im looking at getting a 1g as well, but everyone is asking way to much...do you mind me asking what your offering him for it, or what he was asking?
 
he is asking 3500 right now for it. Of course once I look at it and all the price discussions start LOL. I have also debated waiting a bit longer because I have seen a consistent drop in prices of individual sales. I mean there are cars that have been listed for over 2 months that started at 6K and are now down to 4500........
I think the economy is seriously hurting a lot of people now.

exactly. This guy just emailed me back and I didn't hear from him for over a month. And it is weird because within the past week I had 3 people write me, this guy and two with turboed lasers.

My biggest setback will be if it has no cat (which I assume it doesn't) and needs inspection....UGH!
 
One thing I guess I either missed or I don't see is an FPR. Wouldn't he be overrunning those injectors with a 255? What would the result from running in an extremely rich environment be on the engine? Could you take a look at the exhaust and see if it is black on the bumper?

I didn't think of that but very good point. I never thought to ask if a tune was done as well that would hopefully fix the a/f situation, but definitely something to think of.
 
Def. a good point on the black exhaust color. I didn't see a fpr in the engine pic either. Well the rest you have owned a dsm so you have an idea on the engine. 3500 you can get him to go down if you wait a bit. How long has he owned it?
 
Is it still a 14B turbo?? Looks like he did some upgrades but they're overkill for the 14B. You could bolt up an E3B16G or even a 20G and be good to go!

That 6 puck clutch disc might be a little rough for the street.

I am going to ask him about the turbo. he said he has spare tires and rims on it now. It does not have a cat on it now but he has a HFC for inspection. It also has a MBC and fianza flywheel
 
well i spoke to him. He has owned the car for about 8K miles. Had the trans rebuilt during that time with double synchros in 1st and 2nd. It has a FMIC but it is not hooked up. It is still running off the SMIC.
The tires will need to be replaced (starting to dry rot), it needs an alignment, and probably new shocks (still stockers). The injectors are from an evo and there is no new fuel rails or fuel regulator on there. The MBC is running at stock. It will need an AC compressor as well.

can anyone help me out with what they think on this?
 
seems like a pretty good start to me, the trans mission alone is worth a pretty penny plus all the other stuff. depending on the personal inspection and a test drive 3,000 seems like a pretty fair offer.
 
I hate to sound ignorant, but wouldn't the apexi AFC control the fuel pressure and a/f? yeah i am up in the air about it right now.
I figure tires will cost a bit, and not sure how much it will cost for suspension, alignment, and I guess i would need custom IC piping for the FMIC?
 
The AFC will do just as the initials say - Air Fuel Controller. You would need an AFPR to control the fuel pressure.

Depends on what tires you get as for the cost. I would factor about $500 or so for the tires, including mount and balance. Then about $50-$80 for an alignment. Since you're not sure about the FMIC, I can't say whether you'd need custom piping or not, but my guess is you could find some piping kit that would work for the core. And the suspension could be of various price ranges depending on if you want budget, decent performance, or full out coilovers. And if you did that at a different time than the new tires, you'd need another alignment.

I would say you're looking to put about $1k into it to get it running well. That's factoring in some maintenance costs.
 
If you offer him about 2.8-3.0k, then yes. I would NOT pay 3500 with the amount of work needing to be done to it. I bought my GST for 5k, needing a little bit of work also, but nothing huge. Had a rebuilt tranny, brand new tires, and brand new ETS intercooler. I'd wait if he does not want to go down. Give him two weeks or so, he will be ready to drop it by then.

gotcha....i just wanted to see if it was worth blowing 3K on or looking around for something else in the 4K range...maybe a 2nd gen ya know.
I optimally want to get a car that can be in the 12's with relatively not much. I got my evo to run a 11.78 so I was more than happy there and it was more than needed for the street.
