Well that is alot of miles on a 97 for the price considering it has more miles than my 92 GST. If i was you i would look for a stock car with less miles that has less of a chance of being drivin hard. Just my 2 cents:dsm:

Price seems a little high to me as well. Best place to buy a dsm is either this site's classified ad section or dsmtrader.com. I would be concerned about buying one from autotrader or craiglist anyway even if the price was good.

Assuming the stock turbo is still on the car its range is from about 2500 rpm to 5500 rpm, after that it runs out of steam plus having 133k on it doesn't help much either, its probably on its last legs. Also assuming that the belts have not been changed they tend to squeal when they get old but thats something you should replace anyway regardless.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to get rid of your 97 gst which going by your profile is a pretty nice setup to go to this probably abused 97 gst? Also what made you come to the conclusion that your engine is worn out? Have you done a compression test and had it come back with crummy results? Is there engine noise?

I wouldn't even recommend paying that much for a gsx with those miles. 133K is a little high.

thats way to much for a GST with those miles on it....

Got my 96 tsi for 1500 on craigslist...nothing really wrong with it, body and engine both in very good shape...

try looking in nebraska, minnisota, iowa for DSMs...found out thats where the best deals are..

just trying to help out a fellow dsmer

Doyle

P.S. or if your really set on that car...try and talk him down on the price

It has the common valve ticking. The previous owner ran 20+ psi one stockfuel and injectors. The compression test was 100psi across the board. When oil was put down the cylinder the compression went up to 150psi. I put a new transmission in about 3 months ago. The plan was to swap the new transmission into this car and sell the old car.

Whats the clutch supposed to feel like? Its a stock clutch and its pretty stiff and you only have to let it out halfway to be fully engaged.

well thats better then my clutch...i let out about 1/4 of the way and my clutch is fully engaged...so idk...but i still think u should talk the price down a bit

Doyle

i wouldnt buy it, if that helps you out. i got my 97 GSX for 3k. you can find a much better deal if you want to look for it.

hell you could get a 3000 GT VR4 for that price.

just my 2 cents

hey im new to these cars i drive a zx2 now but i ran into a deal for a 99 eclipse. so far iv just got to look at the cars interior and the exterior. the owner wasnt ther so they couldnt tell me what type it was gsx,gs,gst....or what ever other types there are. all i know is its an mtx with 144,xxx mi and the owner babied it. i took some pics and im hoping that you guys can tell what type it is, me there no signs to show so i dought you can anyway im positive im getting this car and will know by the end of tomorrow what it is. i didnt check but would it have a sich in the dash or steering telling weather its a gs and so on.

i have the opertunity to get a 1995 AWD talon for 2000 or a 1999 GSX for 9000.

im just worried about the CW deal. i dont mind rebuilding the engine. my goals are low.
EVO 3 16G. proper supporting mods.

the 95 seems to be all stock. thats all i know. have yet to hear it run.

the 99 has front mount, S-AFC, probably B16G and 3 inch no cat turbo back. rebuilt head

i know i will do all the maintenance as soon as i get either one. i think the 95 is the better deal as far as money. i just dont know what to do. im sure they can both be as fast as each other. with the same setup. some opinions would be great.

thanks,

it seems that the 99 gsx looks like it almost might be done with what you want. it seems like a good deal. i personally would go with the 99 gsx unless someting on it or with it is not really up to par. then i would ask for more information on how the mods were installed and who installed them. also ask them y they are selling the car. but personally im an eclipse guy vs a talon guy. not to big on the talon rears, although the fronts are nasty. ultimately its your choice and how you feel. its gonna be your car. either way good luck with your new DSM.

A good deal on a GSX would be a bad deal for a GS, which it looks like this is sans the turbo wing.

so are you saying if its a gs it would be a bad deal?

the car is actually my cousins. she just bought a 08 altima and dosnt drive the eclipse, he dar was going to buy it from her for 1500 but i convinced him to let me get it for 1800 with the 18's she has for it. so as she if fam i believe she wouldnt lie about the condition whitch is great. ill know what it is by tonight its really bugging me because im looking at parts and dont yet know if the will fit

thanks again guys

it also depends on what you plan to do with the car. alot/limited track time?
heavy street use...weekend warrior...or just daily driver with the ability to spank alot of other cars out there.

the biggest issue with GSX's vs fwd is that you have the ability to break more stuff. i wanted an AWD until my buddy got once and started breaking alot of stuff just racing the car on the street...in my FWD, i havent had a tranny problem since i got the race trans installed...but it really depends on what you are looking for out of the car...

a fwd might do you right, break less, and since its cheaper MAY be your best bet.

just my .02

Its a 99 Gs. The vents in the side of the bumper are both covered.

I had a 99 RS before and mine were covered as well it just doesnt have side skirts and I added a high spoiler before and it looked just like that.

It also has the black door handles which dont match the silver car that also means RS. Plus no sunroof = RS.

thanks !
my goals are simple. i love AWD. i am going your third choice "Limited semi daily driver with the ability to spank alot of other cars out there"
proper maintenance with all new timing.
my mod list is fuel system up grade including pump filter fuel rail and feed- return lines, Fuel pressure regulator. fuel pump rewire.
evo 3 big 16G
650 injectors. DSM link then megasquirt (down the road)
3 inch turbo back.

im not the type to beat the heck out of my cars. i just like the power to be available.

i believe i will lean towards the 95 because of less expense. especially once modded over all i
will have spent less. also from spending less i can get a winter beater!

I would deffenitly go with the 95 because of couple reasons. First it comes with an e-prom ecu so you dont have to spend an extra 300 bucks to get one , and second reason is the money. Its a 7k difference, which if invested on the 95 talon it will make that car a DD beast.

go with the 95 depending on the condition. You will spend that 7k easily just in mateniance alone. Most likely new wheels new tires new belts maybe new tranny and your looking at 4-5k before mods. You will have to do that on the 99 just later down the road
