well here it is!! Auto Repair, Maintenance, Toledo OH i think i can swing it, talk teh wife into letting me get it. its already done up (not sure what cams are in it, nor if it has dsmlink and all the extra goodies) but it has a frank5 and what not, so im assuming around 350-380...not bad. swap out to some 850cc and some hks 272 should hit round 400 some right? i think its great...just gotta drop the hammer and get it, or let this one too, walk away...WTF

Here is an ad posted on my local car forum. I really want to get into DSM's and the only thing I may need to take it to the shop for is the synchros.

Im selling my 1993 Eagle Talon TSI Awd Turbo. I bought it about 7 months ago. I personally have not done much to the car itself, but the previous owner dropped a new engine in it at 80000 miles and the engine itself has less then 60k miles on it. The odometer says 124k miles on it.

Im going to be completely honest with this car:
The clutch is starting to slip (I have a clutch in the back seat, just need to install it).
A synchro in the transmission has gone bad and once in a while it pops out of first into nuetral.
As you can see a part of the body kit was ripped off.
The back window is smashed (some idiot, long story...) but at rapid import salvage they are selling a whole hatchback to a 93 eclipse for 100$.

It really runs great, has no problem starting up, AC works perfectly, It could take you to denver and back no problem.

I probly should have washed the car before I took pictures but there are not many scratches, there is a small dent in the drivers side door (as you can see) and alot of the other marks are just dust/dirt ### I need to wash it.

Im selling for 1500$. Im only selling because I don't have the time or the know how to take care of a dsm.

I'm seeking the knowledge of experienced dsm owners. I recently found a stock 95 Talon tsi awd that has a clean interior, it's been spot painted, supposedly garaged during the winters (although the rusting suspension parts say otherwise), and the owner claims it only has 36,000 original miles (which the speedo does indeed read). Keep in mind that I still haven't driven the car or had a chance to pop the hood. I know he's asking WAY too much for it (just under $7,000) because Kelley Blue Book says it's worth $4,450 in the condition it's in. My question is: What should I look for as far as any indicators of things that may be going wrong with the car, and what is the top dollar any of you seasoned dsm'ers would shell out for this ride?

Don't trust the odometer if the car doesn't look like the miles it says. I would never pay that much. I barely would pay $4,300. Spot painted as in walmart primer paint? Rusting suspension? I'd pass man.

I bought my 96 talon awd for 3k no mods done to it look at myspace.com/fatherbubble to see what it looked like when I got it. mine has some rust too but I'm getting ride of it when it gets back with the new engine in it. Also when you get to see the engine on that car bring a 10mm an 12 mm socket with you. Pull the exaust manifold heat shield off an see how hard they ran it. Your looking for cracks in the manifold. When I got mine thats the big problem it had. The manifold was broken in 2. Also take a look at all the lines on the car's body make sure there all lined up. That will tell you if its had any major damage. Remember this they got people on here selling cars with lots of mods to them already for around 5k. Think about what mods your wanting to get before you get them an make a plan for building it. I didnt now I ended up getting stuff that I dont want anymore becuase I want better stuff, LOL.

That might be alright. It really depends on what you want to spend. I know that is a generic awnser but somtimes it depends one what others dsm are selling for. I am sure you can find another one. I might pass though because of the rust. I have some rust and it really made everything more difficult to repair when parts broke. But I def. agree with fatherbubble on the cracks. Look under the hood and make sure there are no welded spots along the frame. That would show that there was frame damage. Good Luck

get the VIN number from the owner and please do a carfax on it...it costs you like 20 bucks but it tells you anything thats ever been recorded for that car and you can catch him if he rolled the miles back or lied about damage

Without sounding like too much of a moron, what is crankwalk and how would i identify it? I'm new to turbo charged cars and haven't had a whole ton of experience with them. Other than that, thank you all so much for your advice and opinions. I will feel more confident when I make this guy an offer.

Update on my 1G quest-
The clutch is almost totally toast. I think I may have to put the one that he has in before I drive it home. It is THAT bad. 1st gear does pop out. But I only experienced it when I was going back and forth between reverse trying to get turned around at a dead end. The turbo spooled fine from what I could hear and saw on the gauge (dunno how accurate that is) and it did not sputter nor have any weird idle.

My friend has a 1GA that he replaced the trans in with a Stage 2, and will sell the stock for $100. I can get glass for cheap. The only thing wrong wheel/tire/suspension wise is it looks like it was curb checked on the driver rear wheel. I found next to no rust. Although a bit of surface, which can be expected for a car driven in winter were they salt roads. But nothing rusted through. I couldn't get a good feel for how it really pulled through the rpm range since the clutch slips. I didn't get a chance to check oil, and turbo shaft play since he drove it to meet me (note to self meet him so he won't drive).

There were no odd creaks or groans while I was driving.

One thing of not was that when I got into 3rd gear, took it out, then put it back in again it grinded. Is this a sign of a worn clutch also?

Also, it was repained red to black, and whoever did it did a nice job save for some trim pieces that were a bit over masked so there is some red showing. Fixable. And there is a small run on the clearence bump.

Alright so i was driving by a dealership the other day and i saw a 99 RS, i made an offer on it and nows it time to make a decision. I was wondering if i could get some feedback from you guys. Is a 99 RS with 77,000 worth $6,000 or not. ### i dont want to get screwed..... the interior is in great shap, same with engine. theres no add-onns just bare bones. let me know please.

i want for a few reasons, my buddy has got a GSX and its friggin sick, but its probly not worth it to get the 99, its got the 420a engine in it correct? so it would be a pain in the ass to upgrade. I'm driving a pontiac grand prix GTP right now with 250k so i deffinately want something better on gas LOL

No, I wouldn't pay $6k for an RS. Look around, I'm sure you can find an RS for cheaper, and you'll find GS-Ts and GS-Xs for around $6k.

If I were you and you want a DSM go to Custom Auto Classifieds and look in your area for one.. Usually there are some pretty decent deals on cars.. Not sure if you want a power DSM or you just saw an eclipse and wanted one, but my advice is to not get a 420A Eclipse..

I paid $4500 for my Eclipse GS w/ 86k on it in 2002. The car was (and always has been) intended to be used as a daily driver only, and for that it's been wonderful. The car has never let me down aside from a couple minor issues, and gets 33mpg religiously. It has been, without a doubt, the best car I've owned.

Ya its priced far too high. Not to mention the RS is the lowest trim level. Although these cars do get great gas mileage. I use it as my DD and I get between 30-33 mpg all of the time. I haven't had a single problem with it starting, even in the coldest of whether. I would say the only other car I have owned that gets this good of mpg and is as reliable was my old saturn.

Just a little insight because of all the people dogging on the 420a. Think of it this way:

GST: FWD, 4 cyl, beefy pistons/rods GS/RS:FWD, 4 cyl, weaker pistons/rods

I'm sorry to tell you but a built Gs/RS has essientially the same potential as a GST. They would both be nothing more than turbo FWD cars... The main benefit of getting a turbo dsm would be with the gsx because of awd. It may cost you a little more $$ to turbo a 420a than to buy a stock turbo car, but in the end the GST and the 420a have the same potential.

**Flame Suit On**

my only problem is that i have register my pontiac by the end oof the month and thats gonna cost atleast a grand, and im not really looking to MOD the car at all. i just want something that looks good like my pontiac but is better on gas. (no more 16 MPG)

Well, the stock 420a is slow as dog shit, but gets great gas mileage so if you plan on staying stock and don't care if it blows the doors off all the honda boys then it is a fine car. But not this one because it is priced rediculously high. Hell a 99 will look the exact same as a gsx so looks wise it will be a nice looking car. It just won't move as fast as it looks.
