If the body is in good shape, And she runs thats a steal of a good price for a 99 imo!

Personally, I like my 99. It works really well as a DD, and even looks much nicer than a standard GS/RS. Gotta love the black leather and GSX styling.

The 420a is a very solid motor especially for daily driving and I'd say for that price if it is mechanically sound and not too cosmetically damaged I'd say pick it up. I paid more for mine then that for what it is worth, but have had ZERO problems with it.

Standard white face indiglos are pure sex. Thats the selling point for me!! Leather is always a plus. Sounds like a good DD. Drive it and see how it feels. The guy is probobly selling it though becuase its right around the time shit needs to get done. Timing belt, water pump, plugs and wires, coolant flush, tranny flush, check the brake fluid level and pads and rotors, maybe it needs a oil change and tires. Who knows. I would ask all that stuff and see how well this car is maintained.

A friend of mine has a 1992 talon tsi AWD, its a automatic, has 36,000 original miles, overall condition on interior and exterior are decent, no rust, it's a texas car. The owners before him had took the head off for some reason, but looks like everything is there to put it back together. There are small fresh metal marks on the top the pistons from the valves, not to deep. Car doesnt have a title but in texas its not to hard to get a bonded title or something of that nature. Worth it or dont worry about it?

500 bucks for a cherry 1G is really sweet, even if it needs a bit of work to get going. You won't find many 2G's, even 98s and 99s with that low mileage. Even if its missing some bits and pieces to get it running again should be a sweet deal! Good luck whatever your decision is :thumb:

even without the title you can part it out, starting with that auto tranny you should send my way

I actually prefer the car bien a automatic due to it will see heavy track duty and I think a well built auto will out drag a stick all day long. As far as I can tell as the most I would maybe have to replace pistons and will need to check the head to see if there are bent valves or anything.

36k original miles. Thats amazing. Why did it only make that many miles? The balance shaft belt broken and took out the T belt? I would say get it and fix it up and sell it if its not too much work. Someone is looking for an auto gsx. Not everyone likes manual. Though I love manual.

thats a definate buy. but part it out and get another dsm. if you buy for 500. you can sell the motor alone for 500. you will always make your money back. and with that money buy another dsm. i do it all the time. i've made thousands doing this! good luck!:thumb:

if your willing to put the time into diagnosing the problem id offer him 1500

Hey guy's I'm gonna buy my first Eagle Talon TSI :)! But I want to know if its worth it. The car is 1993 has 248 000 km on it, it need's inspection because he hasn't driven it in about 10 months I think. Its Front Wheel Drive Turbo(I wish it was All wheel Drive), he told me the the only problem with the car is the clutch, which I can fix. He is selling it for $1000 I know its cheap but I wonder what will happen when I take it to inspection and see how much repairs I would have to do haha :p

Going to look at a used 1995 eagle talon tsi awd tomorrow. The guy is asking 4000, and i guess the cars has fresh black paint, upgraded turbo, exhaust, clutch, bpu it sounds like. It has 140000 miles on it:confused:. And I just wanted to know what you guys think the value of this car is. And what to look for when I go see it... Thanks a ton!!!

The basics...

-Check for oil leaks and any other kind of fluid leak.
-Pay attention to any unusual smells.
-Dont beat it into the ground during your test drive, but drive it like its yours. Take your time. Make sure you get some good turns in to see if the c.v. axles or suspension components give any unusual noises.
-Before and after driving look on the dipstick and see if there is any coolant/water or fuel in it.
-Get under the hood and pull the throttle a bit and listen down by the block for a knocking noise. Crankwalk is not fun.
-Make sure you let it get up to running temp for a bit and let it idle to make sure its not going to overheat.

Thats what I usually do. As far as what the car is worth...I would talk him down a bit. For that much you could buy a shell and a decent engine with some bolt ons and put it in yourself. That way you would know what was going on with it instead of possibly trying to fix somebody elses mistakes.

DSMs I think are more about personal value more than anything monetary. I bought mine for 1,200 and put about 3,000 in it to get it running. It now has a nock and ripped timing belt. Needless to say I will never get my money back. But I love that car, even with all the mainenance. If you have a little money to throw in it and it checks out decent then go for it. Just be ready to start throwin down some cash and some time.LOL

That sounds better than what i payed 4500 with blown clutch and turbo
but its all up to your goals
are you looking for a race car or a street able 300hp with no more mods after you reach your goal
If i could go back i would have bought a daily driver and then bought a dsm shell and well you know
but 140k is a lot but sometimes it dont matter

Well I'm 17 and the car will be used as a daily driver. But I sort off want a car that will give me something to learn on if you know what I mean.
And as far as price, I really want the awd one for the winters (iowa). And most awd's are overpriced that i have seen.

But I'll keep you guys updated
Thanks for the replies!

pull off the intake to the turbo and check for turbo shaft play, compression test (let the car warm up, disconnect the fuel pump, press the gas pedal to the floor, crank for 5 seconds on each cylinder to get proper compression numbers), jack up each wheel and see if it wiggles, look under the hood at the shock towers for rust, look in the coolant overflow bottle for oil.

IF there is a car to "learn on" these are perfect, they will teach you more than one good lesson.

1. Patience - something always broke really tests a guys patience.
2. Need - These cars will remind you how it feels to want, You will want more parts, more money to keep it running, and you will find yourself wanting a discontinued part for a 10 year old car.....
3. Money Management - You will learn what debt is like, you owe your soul to the credit card company that pays for your parts..
4. Patience - using it as a daily driver will let you know what it feels like to wait for the tow truck because your ball joint popped out and you cannot move it any other way.
5. Exercise - While exercising patience you will have understand money management issues prevent you from driving your car which lead to physical exercise to propel yourself to work..

Oh Ya I love my DSM....:boring:

I'd sell It!! But I've got too much money in it!! Make me an offer! OMG

Get a cavalier..:p
