Well I dont really have any "plans" other than maybe a few bolt on things. It will remain mostly stock. And I have a few friends that are DSM buffs and could probally find their way around the engine bay with their eyes closed.

And I was going to bring up the NADA book values also.
What is black book exactly?

To start off with, that is one clean looking 17 year old car.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the black book some sort of wholesaler car auction price? My neighbor used to be a dealer and he went around to those car auctions and I think he mentioned something about it.

Did you say they were asking $3,900 for it? That's crazy. For starters do not say anything about price when you first get there. Definitley bring up the KBB/NADA price to them. Do it in a discreate manner though. Don't run up to them and tell them the price it should be. Walk around the car with the dealer knowing whats wrong with them. As you find them point them out one by one. Don't bring a complete list of what's wrong with it. Try to just act casual. After that I would bring up pricing issues. You should be able to get that car for $1,800. Granted its a dealership I don't know if they would want to sell it that low. Might have better luck locally/craigslist.

Yes, they said 3900 after they go through it. They obviously have no clue.
Hopefully this lead I have for my Jeep will want it, I am gonna start kinda high for a Wagoneer and go down. I hope for at least 1800.

Also, I just paid a $156 6 month premium on my Jeep. The monthly on that Talon is $106. Would the insurance company give me back $50 to even out the difference? Or how does that work? You just payed a premium for your vehicle then buy a new one that is less per month than a 6 month premium.

Depending on the car insurance company, they should give you your difference back on your new car. I think what the other guys are saying is right, i used to work for a car dealership, if you do everything nonchalant they might be more willing to here you side of the story about how parts are hard to come by for the 90's, and fib that you have to special order parts. :sneaky: But 15-1800 sounds better and you can save your money towards other things, such as upgrades. :thumb: But i would also ask them what exactly that 1500 dollars or so they did for the car. You said new brakes, what about timing belt, oil changes, axles, ball joints, tie rods, all the suspension stuff. When was that all done is what you should ask them. Hope that helps you out.

:laser:

Some more information, I was told by two people that he JUMPED the car. How should I check that? Damage on the underside, blown out struts, etc.?

The PO also said that the clutch was going out, in his opinion. I will test drive it first and then if I think it needs one I will make them know that.

the PO was a auto technician and he JUMPED the car?
just hearing that and if the price is what you say it is id pass and find one for sale by owner

Shit I got my 90 TSi 5speed with only 74,000 miles for $1300 if they want $3900 #### that man. You hardly see any 1g's going for that.

Dealers now day's, I sware some of them ort to get a shotgun blast to the face.

No, the owner before the PO is a UTI grad. The PO supposedly jumped the car. I went to the dealership yesterday, they want $2953 WTF

NADA Bank Book Value $5,953.00
Sale Price $2,953.00

That is what they had on the page

Almost 6 grand for a 17 year old car? I would expect that from a Dodge Stealth or somethin, not a Talon.

hey guys, I rescently found this ad on craigslist for a 1995 eagle talon tsi. I was wondering if it was worth going for. http://bellingham.craigslist.org/car/389896461.html

I've had some experience working on cars, I used to own a MKIII supra so having issues with my car is nothing new to me. But I'm still a noob. Just wondering what your guy's opinion was on that car in the ad.

This is a good deal if you ask me. 2k for a Talon and it looks pretty good. Only thing that worries me is that he says 20K on rebuild engine and then tells you its perfect for a 6bolt swap..... why swap engine if the one inside is rebuilded. But defenitly check out the car.

As a rule I don't buy cars that people have already modified. No telling what they have done to it beyond what you can visibly see. He calls it a "project car," make sure you have a ll the facts you dont want to buy a project car he screwed up and now is selling because it costs too much. Make sure you ask for proof of this engine rebuild, and then call the company that did the work and confirm it.

Dude Thank God! I was gonna run into the corner and pull out my razor blade. But yeah, I've sent the guy a few emails and he says what's in the ad is all what's wrong with it. But I have a feeling I'll find more when i take a look at it. He's gona visit the car on Saturday and send me more pics and give me more details about the car.

I agree with ya! but he does say some things are wrong with it. And I'm weary when he said that the engine and turbo were rebuilt 20k ago but it's perfect for a 6 bolts swap. But it never hurts to go look at it.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty sure it has some problems. Just want to know about what they are.
