Considering you said the car has a new tranny, that's cool. But how bad is the rust? I have a 2g and all of the rust on the car is underneath it and really bad. My shock towers are about rusted through. But for 1200, I think it's a little steep unless the tranny is a TRE or Shep. Like the other guy said, go looking for the deals and try to get something going. Good Luck!!

I found a guy selling a 91 GSX with an original engine and a rebuild engine(both included) He wants me to make him an offer. I was thinking like 1100 or around there for the gsx and the rebuilt engine(not the original one). Is that a fair trade or would like 1100 be good for just the car and transmission and no engine block.

Im about to sell my GSX 91 with a bad head and ECU for $500.

Go as cheap as you can.. No older guys can handle selling these (minus the wiseman...)

im trying to pick up a tsi awd 91 for 1400 as soon as my 2g gets sold, has a brand new ported head on it and runs well. I would offer him 800 and see if he takes it. But thats just me

I haggled as best I could and still paid 2k for my 92 AWD. But, it was in mint shape and only had 104k miles on it, so I can't bi***.

If the motor in it is blown,or close to it, I'd offer him 1k at most, If he's willing to put the good engine in AND include the bad one, I'd give him 1200 for the trouble LoL
Oh, and if you didn't know, there is an awesome walk-through here on the site about buying a DSM. Here's the link: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238710

Good luck.

Well, if it is worth it to you then you can justify your price. It is not a problem to shoot him a lower offer and let him work the price. He may just take $800. But if it is a full car, even with a bad engine and he is including a spare engine then about $1000 is not a bad price if it is going to be a car you get a lot of service from, i.e. a DD. If you are going to rebuild a lot of the car then $1000 may be too much. Good Luck.

Right now the engine/tranny are out of the car. He stripped the car down to inspect it and make sure there was no body damage. He was going to make it a drag car but ran out of money or something. The old engine just had noisy lifters and the new one is bored out with all new internals. The body is mint and it was just painted. The interior is ugly but I have a 91 GST for parts. He said eerythign is included I just have to putit back together.

Got my 1996 gst for 6k came with a 16g turbo, FMIC, and some more goodies under the hood, had 105k miles and they originally wanted 9k for it, but with it sitting for a year, with paint discoloration got em down to 6. Thought it was the best deal in the world until a month later the rod bearings take a crap on me.....sigh..but hey did the 6 bolt swap and now i paid a total of 11k for it....what you guys think?

Well, ive had it with my talon, bad tranny, bad clutch, bad hubs, yatta yatta yatta...By buddy calls me (His names Diego, he's a rotory guy) he says, one of his customers has a 92 laser under his porch. I say "Cool, *yawn*...Is it awd, 5spd, turbo?" He says fwd, turbo, auto. I say "too bad huh." He calls today, " AWD, 5sp, turbo, all black with headlight covers with alloy wheels. 80k miles on it, with good papers etc...Now im thinking, " great, now my dreams are ruined cause hes gonna ask 3k for it.. He says 800. My mouth dropped, now im scrambling to ditch the big blue b!tch...Its rust free, really clean, all stock, with exception of wheels and some autozone muffler. Im thinking yes, just want some 2nd, 3rd, and maybe 4th opinions before. Thanks -Joe

no question... do it... I picked up my '92 talon for $1k with 110k miles on it, best decision ever! :)

whats up guys my father and i got into a conversation about how muc money you lose by putting things into your car and not being able to get it back late by selling it. How much do you think i could get for it if I WERE to sell it.

1999 eclipse gs oz ed , hahn stage 2 turbo kit, remanufactured tranny, freshly rebuilt engine bored .020 over with je pistons and eagle connecting rods, rebuilt head, 106,000 miles but none on new engine, sbc OFE SS clutch, a nice stereo and the list goes on.

not a serious post but it would be amusing to see how much money its worth thanks guys

i talked to the owner, it needs a head gasket, whcih he has and it cant be that hard to replace can it? Im still getting it, but it has 2.5" turbo back, and it needs new wheels and tires. all 4 wheels and tires are different, LOL. Cant wait. Im gettin 1500 for my BBB.

At one time I thought I got a great deal, although listening to some of you guys I think I got jipped.

I paid $2200 for a '94 gsx with 200k. What can I say, it was the first time behind the wheel of a DSM and I got hooked. These things are like heroine; I got a little taste and I just couldn't get off the stuff.

I've put another $1200 into tuning and minor upgrades and I can't resist planning out my next paycheck... I just wish I had a hydraulic lift and an engine hoist and stand!

Hey umm im looking at a 1994 talon
I CAN GET IT FOR LIKE 400 DOLLARS
but its not a tsi or a awd its just an es
Should i buy it?
is it possible to build this up?

Most of the people posting in this forum have been rather vehement about not purchasing a vehicle that is not stock performance. I have to agree when looking at the price - it costs too much in comparison to results when trying to upgrading from a base level.
$$ invested > same performance levels

Unless you have another vehicle you can part from or use body/cosmetic parts from this one you are thinking of buying, there are too many auxiliary items you would need to upgrade to get it to the same "bolt-on" levels.

I got my 99 RS for $4,500.
It had 46k on it, was owned by a guy in the military that went to Iraq and sadly did not return :( .
In the mint condition it is in, with only 57k miles, and alot of options on it (stereo, wheels, etc.) its MSRP is over $8,000.

Not too shabby.
