I decided i would go ahead and start a build journal to keep better track of what i've been doing and to hopefully inspire some other builds. Feel free to comment our thoughts/ask questions.

My plan is to eventually be around 550-600 WHP and just have an all around fun car. I do ALL of the work on my car. Paint, electrical, bodywork, motor assembly, ALL OF IT! I want to be able to say
I built my car and no one else.

I will be posting updates fairly often and respond ASAP to any questions you guys may have. I still have a few more posts to finish and post to get caught up to the present time, and those will be coming soon. thanks for looking everyone!

The Beginning

I've had the car since 2011 and picked it up for $2,500. Here's the craigslist add photos!

When i first bought it, it already had some decent mods.
-Walbro high pressure 255lph pump
-Safc2
-550cc injectors
-14b
-exhaust
-act 2600
-front mount

It needed some TLC but was fairly solid for the price.

Here's some pics of right after i got it!

WHAT A MESS!!

Shortly after getting it, i picked up some enkei 16' rims originally for an RSX and with a little modding, they fit like a charm!

The Struggle
In April of 2013, while going through a divorce, The worst possible thing happened.

A lady who was too impatient to wait for someone turning in front of her, swerved into my lane. My brakes locked up and i slid right into this telephone pole. Luckily i was ok. a few bumps and bruises is all i got. Well... that and a ticket. The cop was a jerk and said it was my fault(even though there were several witnesses that told him the lady swerved in my lane). He said some crap about me not actually hitting the lady made it my fault:f-u:.

Luckily the frame wasn't bent and i was able to repair her after 9 months. While she was down i went ahead and did a few upgrades which is partly why it was down for so long. I went 16g turbo, cleaned up the engine bay, Deleted the a/c and power steering and all lines, aluminum radiator and slim fans, 2GB bumper/skirts conversion. below are some pics of after i got her back running. she wasn't exactly where i wanted her to be. but after 9 months of not having a car. i did what i could.

and in July 2014 i was able to buy a parts car to get some much needed replacement and spare parts
10480950_923129001046340_3843470000930847009_n.jpg

FINALLY got the stock 5 spokes and a new door to replace the dented up ones and a RED hood instead of the plastidipped black hood!

It's starting to come together!

After my divorce i was able to start putting alot more money into the car. and bit by bit she was starting to come together nicely

After my rebuild i had gotten a Harness bar and some nice Sparco 4 point harnesses and some other odds and ends and was really impressed on how quick the car was for just a 16g! i was very proud and contect with how she was turning out!

The Struggle 2.0

In the beginning of 2015 after 219k hard driven miles and seeing 20+lbs boost daily. the stock bottom end finally let go:D:applause:
I couldn't even really be mad. i knew it was gonna go eventually. When she did let go i was in 3rd gear and only starting to build boost when i heard a snap crackle and pop. i immediately put it in neutral and heard chunks bouncing off the car. here was the damage!

It was Gnarly! and i love it!

After i took out the stock block i decided if i was going to rebuild it, i would make a few changes instead of a stock rebuild. I dug my spare block out of my storage that i had pulled from the parts car. I decided to delete the balance shafts and go with some forged rods. I found a killer deal on some Cat rods rated for 800+HP. i went with .20 cast pistons(since they typically aren't the weak point) and ACL Race bearings. For the head i used a spare set of stock cams i had, which are the biggest stock cam they made, and some revised lifters.

After a few months she was back and running and was now powered by a 20G turbo!

Enough of the struggle already

September 2015.... what a month... I was taking the son out for a cruise since the weather was great and i had just dialed in the tune on the 20G, and i wanted to relax and enjoy the car and the weather. I live out in the country so there's tons of back roads to just ride around on. I pulled out of my driveway and about 2 miles down the road this happened....

First and foremost. The son and I were ok. I had some bumps and bruises and Parker was a little sore from the seatbelt. The lady in the saturn turned in front of me trying to get into the gas station and i had little time to react.

After the insurance did their thing i was finally able to start the teardown to see how bad the damage was. and it was alot
Things that needed replaced were
-Intercooler
-Radiator
-Core support
-Headlights
-Oil feed line for the turbo
-J-pipe
-and the turbo:banghead:
12033032_1215640368461867_5753964326097315699_n.jpg

broke/bent the fins on the compressor wheel. and broke the lip on the CHRA for the clip that holds the compressor cover on.

Since then I've been gathering parts to get her back together and I'm going to go back to my old 16G until I can get the turbo i REALLY want, a HX35. I'm pretty close to getting it back together. I'm going to be making a few changes to her as well as a few other upgrades that i'll post about later. She wont be as pretty as she was before at first, but with anything, it just takes time. it sucks to have this kick in the face after getting the motor back together not long before this happened. Thats life i suppose. stay tuned for updates guy. And remember, Stay Classy America

Progress!!!

I was able to get around to knocking a few things out on the car this weekend. A good buddy of mine was parting out a car and hooked me up with a core support and radiator and a pair of 12" slim fans.

After i prepped the core support and slapped a fresh coat of paint on it i was able to get it on the car and set the radiator in it.
12509062_1287086957983874_6341485938221354811_n.jpg

I also wired the fans up to be pusher fans that I will mount between the radiator and intercooler. I still have to mount those and clean up and paint the radiator brackets to complete the cooling system.

I went ahead and got another set of fenders on the car. my original ones were a little rough and after the wreck they were tweaked out of shape.

I also got my old 16G cleaned up and mounted back on the car. and also installed a spare oil feed line i had laying around since the one i originally had on the car caught on fire in the wreck when it got pinched between the the positive stud on the alternator and the core support itself.
12507347_1287086961317207_1437901044598867714_n.jpg

the best part of this weekend is i was able to start the car and let it idle for a few minutes. And man did that feel good to hear!:hellyeah:

I also knocked our rewiring the fuel pump. Its something i've wanted to do for awhile and figured since the car was down i'd go ahead and do it. I know you can get a rewire kit for around $35. I assembled my own materials and it only cost me around $20! I had a few short pieces on 10ga wire laying around so i didnt have to buy much. below is all i actually had to buy

Female quick disconnects(bought a small pack that had multiple sizes- $3
30a fuse holder and fuse- $8
8ft roll of 10ga wire- $7
Pack of ring terminals- $3

You know that foglight relay that you don't use anymore since you have that nice big front mount? you can use that relay for the fuel pump wire since they are 30a relays!

Thanks to Blurred Talon for the pinout of the oem relays. info can be found here

I still have a bunch to do before shes back on the road and i'll post more updates as they come. Some things to look forward too are:

-Install new short shifter/shift boot/and knob
-Install new intercooler(already purchased just need to go pick it up from a buddy)
-Install DSMLink(already purchased just need to go pick it up from a buddy)
-Clutch cut wire install
-Install new headlights(waiting on them to arrive)
-Install new j-pipe(waiting on it to arrive)
-Install stock steering wheel(aftermarket one got bent in the wreck)
-Install another windshield wiper switch(got broke in wreck)

Some additional things i plan to do after the car is back up and running for awhile.

-Reclear the fenders since it's starting to peel
-Paint the car(long time away LOL)
-Engine harness wire clean up/tuck
-Chassis harness cleanup/tuck and relocate the fuse box
-Fix rust under the side skirts
-Small battery and relocation
-Change the catch can set up
-Make bracket to remount the coil pack
-Build a tubular core support(I don't like the used one i got as its slightly bent)

Thats all i got for now. I will be posting updates/progress as I get more parts in and have time to get them on. Stay Classy America!

Very nice man! I didn't know you had a core support back in! I'll have to come see it when I get back out there to visit my family and such!

Heck yeah man. that would be cool! just let me know. i should be back up and running come spring. and hopefully have everything dialed in

I’ve been tuning her and about got it all sorted out. I can honestly say I’ve fallen in love with her all over again. Never has she pulled this hard, ESPECIALLY for only having a lil ol 16G. I’m honestly impressed with how she’s running. In fact, she’s running so good that one of my buddies with a 20G is racking his brain trying to figure out how the hell I’m flowing more LBS/MIN than he is. But that’s my little secret ;)

I hope to get to the track to see how well she runs(if I don’t break it first) and hopefully will have some more updates soon. Thanks for taking a look!
