Factory Flashback presents: The EVOlution of your Lancer Part I
Back in the 70s, mitsubishi wanted to reach for the stars in the 1980s, they did this with the COLT and LANCER family of vehicles.. The Colt came in a version called the Lancer,

as well as a sportier version called the Galant. Galant FTO
and the Galant GTO
Not only were all of these cars related, but they shared the same family of engines. (More on that later)
This emphasis on shooting for the stars was not only manifested in multiple evolutions of the same platform, but was reflected in the code names of their experimental engine families. Their experiments with the Astron motor, would evolve into the Sirius motor(4GXX). The Astron, which was used in the Galant GTO, featured DOHC and "silent shaft technology" Although the Colt, Lancer, Galant GTO, and Galant FTO were 70's cars, I have included them in this thread because this motor is directly responsible for the 4G63 we all know and love; because the last of these cars, the 2000 GSR, used the first sirius 4G63. As a matter of fact, the first 4G series motors were sold in the US in the late 1970s, in the Lancer hatchback(known as the Celeste in japan), as the Plymoth Arrow, and Mitsubishi Colt

Well, in 1980 the Galant GTO EVOLVED into the Galant Lambda, (aka Dodge Challenger in the U.S.) using the new SOHC 2.0 litre turbocharged Sirius Dash 4G63 SOHC engine to power her RWD mitsubishi goodness

At the same time, Colt hatchbacks were still sold in the US in the 1980s, featuring SOHC 4G63 RWD goodness in the Colt GT and Fire Arrow GT US versions.
The Galant Lambda coupe was supplemented by a car called the Starion,
which would ultimately replace it, while the 4 door sport car duties continued to be administered by the Galant Sigma and the Colt Lancer GSR.
