The car is not cranking. the starter is just spinning the motor

I currently have a 98 gsx. The car is not cranking. the starter is just spinning the motor. The story is i installed a 16g with a walbro 255 fuel pump and everything ran fine for about week. After running the car for about 20 hours over the course of a week it would not start, it just randomly shut off. I have tryed everything such as replacing all the relays, fuses, sparkplugs, plugs, coil and the ECU and i cant get to the bottom of it... can some one please help me?
 
I'm guessing one of your connections at the fuel pump failed since that's one of the things you changed. It could be very possible for the electrical connection to have come disconnected.
 
If its rewired check to see if you are getting power starting from the battery all the way to the fuel pump, check the inline fuse especially. The fuel pump relay is in the center console near the radio when you start the car you should hear a click. Do a search for a fuel pump relay and you should get an exact location. Always check to make sure electrical components are receiving power before you open or replace, sometimes its just that simple.
 
ok well i just found out my rebuilt ecu was actaully the problem! i put my buddies ECU in and now it catches spark and fuel and cranks over but it just wont seem to start... when i try to start to it cranks over and there is black smoke coming out the exhaust.... any ideas why and how i could get it started?
 
Is the fuel pump working, can you hear it? basic combustion; fuel, fire(spark) ,and oxygen without one there is no combustion.
 
If you are having issues still, I would strongly look at the following:

*your crank pulley for damage or wear -- the counterweight on the crank pulley has a tendency to separate from the crank pulley, causing the crank pulley and crank angle sensor to be replaced.

*your cam angle sensor could be on its way out, or has a loose wiring connection.

*your fuel pump that you installed has a bad ground, or a loose wiring connection. Did you hard-wire it with a relay and an inline fuse? If you did, I would look at that first.

All three of these things will cause your symptoms.

All three of these things ALSO need to be functioning for your engine to fire its fuel injectors. If any of these three are not working correctly, it would result in the fuel injectors not to function.

If the fuel pump stuff is confirmed as good, you should look at the crank pulley, crank angle sensor and the cam angle sensor.

If you have already confirmed that the fuel pump is functioning properly -- you should be able to hear it turn on and prime itself when the car key is put into the "ON" mode from the "OFF" mode, you would hear the relays under the stereo click, along with the hum of your fuel pump. If you aren't hearing this, I would first check the fuel pump for functionality; and then check the other things I have mentioned.

If the other ECU fixes the problem, then Replace your spark plugs.

Also......what year ECU are you using???? spark plug wiring is different on the coil packs from 1995-1996 vs. 1997-1999, and fire in a different order.
 
Finnaly started! it was the spark plugs, i had to reroute them because i was using a 98 ecu in a 95.
