Tensioner too tight for 5 miles is the tbelt still good?

My cousin paid someone to do a timing belt chnage, and he bought the OEM belt.

Well they set the tensioner too tight (you could here it, sounded like a supercharger or like an airplane). He only drove it about 3-5 miles.

Will this small amount of driving result in premature belt failure? Should he buy a new belt now, or just readjust it?

grgh. Iffy call. For the amount of hazard a weakened belt applies to a DSM motor, versus the small cost of a replacement, I don't think I'd want to take the risk.
