Evo 3 16G, walbro 190, RC 550's, 2g MAS setup on a 1g.....People said that setup rarely needs any tuning...no SAFC required....is this true? any input would be great.

Your betting on your car's integrity and life if you do not know the air/ fuel mixtures.
SO...
I wouldn't! I had my car setup much like this but with an 18g and the AFC corrections were a bit different than what it was if I left it at zero. (as if there wasn't one connected) Plus. If you can tune for wide open throttle (WOT) then you will want that extra tuning tool to find out if you are running to lean. To lean is a bad thing obviously.
Another plus is... If you've bothered to go this far with the car, you could get so much more out of your car's performance and money already invested, if you invest in one. Especially if you do not have any other sort of tuning tool in the car allready!

let's see, the stock injectors are rated @450ccs. yes, you'll need an AFC.

Yes you need something to adjust fuel and you are going to want a logger so that you can make the adjustments correctly.

Modifications dont mean much when they are not setup properly... Its well worth the money.

Well if you want to run rich all the time, then no you don't need any tuning :D . I forget the exact calculation but 550 injectors flow approx 18% more fuel then the stock ones. So your starting off with an already rich (~9.5 to 1) wot factory air/fuel ratio & then adding 18% more fuel, does that make any sense to you? Yes you need some sort of tunning device & a logger to see what is going on :thumb:

But the key thing you guys are forgetting is that he has a 2gmaf on a 1g which means that it has a different airflow calibration than a 1g. it is commonly accpeted that a 2g maf reads low enough compared to a 1g, that it almost perfectly counteracts the 550cc injectors. bt of course it isn't perfect, so i would recomend getting a chip burned for 550's and a 2gmaf if you have an eprom ecu for two reasons;

1. Its way cheaper.
2. It will most likly run far better than you could drem for with an afc.

goodday, kurt

I'll tell you what I think.
