Ironic this was posted so recently, I've been trying to find a FMIC for my 90 AWD and a friend of mine suggested I look into the PTE. He's a big Grand National guy and said he saw their cores at this years GN Nationals. He said they look awesome. Those of you who have had experiene with this IC can you comment? I was looking at the biggest size the 31.5x10.3x3.5, figure that should be nice and efficient for something in the 60-1 maybe little bit larger size turbo.

Real life experience VS. A company that wants to make a sale....

Take your pick!

That doesn't make any sense, if they wanted to make a sale they would have tried to pimp the larger more expensive intercooler instead of the smaller one. Either way the guys at PTE are some of the nicest no BS people in the automotive industry i've ever met, I can see the guys at Turbonetics trying to spoon feed you BS but not PTE.

Fact is I've seen an AS1025 (the "600 HP" intercooler) on a turbo honda making just under 600 horsepower at the wheels, and he was still seeing very low inlet temperatures on the street. That's a conservative 680 to 700 horsepower at the flywheel, depending on what correction factor you like to use. I feel that cooler is enough for practically any DSM, but if you have the room it isn't really going to hurt to move to the AS1026.

I see that you have a 1G, and for that reason alone, I would not suggest buying a PTE intercooler with the side to side type end tanks. I have a friend that has a PTE SCM61 that runs the AS1026 PTE intercooler with the "2G style" end tanks. He bought just the core, and although the intercooler is amazing, it was a pain in the a$$ to install. If you want more details, PM me for how we did the intercooler piping.

The general consensus here was that the particular intercooler that he purchased was too small for his future goals. There is nothing to argue here. Many people have purchased intercoolers only to find out that they grew out of them, and when you are spending $1300+ on one of the biggest, yet most important modifications, why would you leave yourself with no room to grow? Never did I insult PTE or imply that they were not a good company in any way; don't put words in my mouth. Is the word "pimp" a synonym for sell?

Anyway, nice intercooler! :thumb:

Doing end to end on a 2G is not a pain in the ass at all. It's easy as doing a 1G or a Honda or any other car for that matter. I do all 2G cars end to end regardless of the type of turbo thats on the car. Much cleaner that way.

Your friend with the SCM61 just needed to point the compressor down and use a 90 deg to go towards the drivers side of the car then wrap around the end of the rad support down near the bottom for the first intercooler pipe. It's easy to fit though there, 2 1/4 fits in nicely.

Here is a pic of my own car I did last year in my garage, not even at the shop.

Maybe you misunderstood me...

I'm fully aware that the 2G uses the end to end tank design. Ever try doing "2G style endtanks on a 1G? Not fun...

DS JIM,
on the stock t25, the outlet faces the passenger side, I too am getting a side side FMIC and currently have my custome made FMIC with both in/out on the passenger side. I saw my friend's eclipse and the shop sawed off the bend going to the passenger side making it point straight down.

here's my question, what would be more restrictive:

1. make a ubend from the stock outlet so that it points towards the driver saide and then another U bend to go into the FMIC inlet.

2. or 1 U bend going in from the passenger side, then out the driver side, pipe then makes a 90 degree turn up and then goes across the intercooler into the intake pipe.

I prefer option 2 for financial reasons as I have already the intake and turbo pipes there
