In a 95 TSi AWD, Are both TB gaskets the same? The on in the intake and the other from the elbow?

I am going to do a TB shaft seal replacement as well, I found Chicago Rawide #3030 and CR # 3930. It is unclear which one I need unless I need one of each. If I can not acquire these CR parts, I was thinking of using o-rings (The car has less then a weak until storage, I am looking for a temp fix). what size do I need, 13mm x 10mm x 3mm ?

Thanks.

No, the gaskets are not the same.

Seal size/info should be in this article.

Thanks a lot for the quick response!

If I do this shaft seal replacement, is it necessary to replace the TB gaskets? If it is, then never mind this idea as the car is going to be put away by then.

Ok well I have been calling for CR #3930 parts ... no one has them in stock are don't look lik ill be getting them any time soon. If I go the o-ring route, what size o-ring? Is it not covered in the vfaq.

Thanks

Yes, you need to replace those 2 gaskets. Unless you want to put your throttle body back on with old gaskets and risk having a boost leak.

WOWOW great stuff! Impressed by these forums! Keep up the good job!

Well the TB gaskets are already leaking a bit. The big picture of this is that I am trying to find my boost leak, I have my tester hooked up to my TB elbow and I am only hearing leaks from the TB gasket and seals. I used to hit 25Psi now I barely manage 17PSI then it tapers off quickly to like 12-13psi. Could the TB leaks be the cause of this terrible boost or not even close.. ?

We are talking about a 13-14psi BLT down to 4-5PSI in about 5-6 or so seconds.

Well thanks alot snowborder714 for your help, greatly appreciated. You got a first name if you don't mind me asking?

Anybody else want to chime in regarding my excessive boost leak?

Hey now. I'm a DAMN good looking man! (but I'd make for one ugly-ass looking woman).

That's a pretty big leak for it to be TB gaskets and/or seals IMO.

What is wrong with just using gray RTV?

Everything.

OEM TB gaskets work great, need no additional sealer, are easy to remove, don't make a mess, and can actually be reused in some cases.

After spending a good 3 hours trying to clean up a member's TB and IM that was caked with RTV...I think I'd strangle someone if I saw them using it instead of $4 worth of OEM gaskets.

How did a head gasket get into this discussion? :)

Head gasket failure? Does that make a hug POP/KABOOM when it goes?

Not that I've ever heard. (and you never said anything about a POP/KABOOM in your original post).

****

This is sounding more and more like a coupler blew off some where. Usually a loud pop followed by a massive boost leak.

Ya sorry about that, this thread is a smaller portion of the"Bigger Picture" which was discribed in another thread title "KABOOM + SMOKE - car runs fine"

I originally testing for boost leaks, then I had a TB gasket and seals question... having such a massive leak from the TB elbow and so on I figured maybe a head gasket failure was in question.

Sorry if this is bringing confusion guys.

I am (was) also running 25psi of boost on stock headstuds. Logger counts 0 knock on all RPMs though.
