OK from what I understood the talon and the eclipse where the same thing except for a few small things, my friend told me that the eclipse and talon have different frames, slightley different measurements and what not, I told him the only difference between my 90 talon and his 91 eclipse is my front grill and taillights and me having all the little eagles emblems all over. I am 99% sure that they both sit on the same frame. Also he said that eclipse was assembled in japan and talon was assembled in america. I mean seriously what are the differences I know there isnt different wheel bases and stuff like that like he said.

he's wrong. If you go to the front page of this website (www.dsmtuners.com) there is a "model guide" that describes the details.

You might remind him that every single talon, laser, and eclipse from 1989-1999 was built in Normal, IL, has 70% american parts, 30% Japanese parts, and are all essentially the same car. The only differences are trim components basically. Some of the cars got nicer do-dads, and that's about it.

Even that is a matter of opinion. :D

Thanks thats all the proof I needed I did alot of searching too, thanks.

Tell your friend we said Talon has 20 more HP just to piss him off. :D

Lesson One in DSMland: Friends don't know shit about your car. They probably don't know much about their own cars- they don't need to. Non-DSM owners just get in, sit down, and drive. The DSM owner must be capable of doing a gutterside transmission reconstruction, or carry a whole helluva lot of bus change.
that the eclipse and talon have different frames,
DSMs are unibody. The pretty part with the paint all over it is the "frame".

Now you're ready to find friends who are your intellectual equal. I suggest a local university, unless you're in California.

You're right, the sheet metal's all the same.
Also he said that eclipse was assembled in japan and talon was assembled in america.
Sideways. The cars were made in Illinois, the motors and transmissions came over in crates from Japan.

You had it right. Subtle styling changes in the rubber and plastic bits of the bumpers and door caps, Eclipses were a tiny bit more up-scale with powered antennas, the Mitsubishi FM Diversity antenna system (a second glass-mount antenna on the rear hatch), pre-wiring for a CD changer in the cargo hold, and on later models, the Homelink visor.
They're the same cars other than powerplants and accomodations for their moutings dependant on which engine. As are the Lasers.

Holy crap, Defiant! No comment on the "I did a lot of searching, too" reply. Either your medication is working or you've turned over a new leaf! ;)
You think friends say a lot of things? Friends of friends say a lot more about cars, and their information transcends imagination.

yea he has a 91 gsx, I said that in the first post. But yea I did some searching before this thread I just wanted a specific thread so that I can show him I have been here for 2.5 years, im not that stupid. But thanks for all the replys, if there is any argunment on the fact again I will always have this thread to show him.

Yeah, I figured something was up when I saw your join date. I gotcha. :D Send him to thread 167277.

I always thought 97 was the last year for DSM's. I have a 98 GSX and nowhere on it does it say DSM. Now I have friends with 95-97 and they all have a factory DSM sticker inside the hood where mine says Mitsubishi Motors. Anyway, I personally just think the 95-99 Eclipses look alot better than the 95-99 Talon's. Eagle should have never got ahold of that boomerang wing.

To each his own. ;)

I think Krazy had the sexiest Talon/Eclipse ever. The combo of 95-96 talon colors/spoiler and 97-99 eclipse bumpers/sideskirts is awesome. Especially in white.

If you are new to the forums (like in the last year or so) search Krazykorean and you will see the sweetest DSM in my personal opinion. The car is actually for sale now from the guy that purchased it from him on autotrader.

I think the best looking with STOCK body parts would have to be a:
95 - 96 Talon Body (no lines through the side like the 97-98s)
97 - 99 Eclipse Front End Conversion
95 - 96 Talon Side Skirts (the ones with the ground effect)
95 - 96 Talon Back End

let's not get too technical about what "is" or "is not" a DSM, or you'll piss off the 420a guys

I've learned to just let it go. If it's 1999 or older, it's a DSM. If it's one of those shitty sebrin... errr 2000+ eclipses i just laugh.
