No CEL, checked for boost leaks, None, i used a boost leak tester I found on Vfaq, System stayed pressurized, after I sprayed soapy water on IC pipes and no leaks there either. Car Is completely stock. When I rev up about 2k it starts breaking up, or sputtering, My plugs were black So I know I'm running rich, Replaced with bpre6s or whatever. gapped to .028. Well Here is the video to help.

Hmm that whining reminds me of my friends dead turbo..
No black smoke?
Does boost still kick in?

What wining? That is how a turbo car sounds that is bone stock. The turbo is fine, absolutely no shaft play. And yes, It has smoke that smells like fuel. And yes boost still goes. I cant drive it though it sputters and skips to much.

Straight cut oil pump gears ftw, LOL. I would pull the ecu and look at the injector driver on it. I've had a few blow the driver and the car will run very rich and will not rev over a few k rpm.

Whats that Look like By any chance? I pulled ECU yesterday, pulled cover off to check if it smelt like fish. And it was all good from the looks.

Here is a picture of ECU, It doesn't Look bad to me.

Did the car have a check engine light on? Do you have any type of tuning device on it like an safc or maf translator? If not than your only options are an injector driver issue or a problem with the maf or wiring if it is truly running that rich.

car is bone stock. nothings touched. New maf, and all injectors spray, And no CEL

Is the maf truely new or "new to you"? Only reason I ask is because I've had my maf go bad and it clunks around like its not getting any air and it's starving.

I would try a different maf, also have you checked spark plugs?

Came off a running first gen gst, Got it from miller imports. and yes installed new ones gapped to .028 last night.

If you have access to another known good ecm then I would try that above all else. This same thing happened to my last AWD and I did everything to it I could think of except change out the ecm. Sometime the ecms leak and its not visible. I would undo the 4 screws holding the board to the case and check underneath for anything. But even ecmlink says that the caps and whatever else can leak and be hidden. Hope the helps.

did you get a new one and from where? my 90 tsi is doing the same thing , except if i run the car with the maf unplugged until the car is warmed up then plug it back in the car runs like a raped date, some times i just get in start it and its fine, very random . ive checked all wiring ,swapped mafs , replaced coolant temp sensor , replaced tps ...

I am going to throw this in there that many have missed. I noticed in the video that (know the stock boost gauge is not a good one but still) he built up boost in neutral just revving it. Maybe in this car, the gauge is just off that much but, under no load, even if you just floor the car all of a sudden, you may build 1 or 2 psi by fuel cut (7500).

It looks to me like the timing is off and a bearing is about to go in it with the whine it has. Only way the engine could be under a load and try to build boost like that is when it is out of time. The computer, having a burned spot, could also affect the ability of the CEL to come on so may not show a code.

It is out of time and could be other issues as well.

Sorry to dig up this thread but i am having a similar problem, i was wondering what it actually wound up being. my car will start to break up really bad sometimes before building boost sometimes after like its getting fuel cut aswell, this morning i was driving and the car was breaking up so bad if i went past barely touching the throttle it was like it didnt have any gas, i tried turning the car off while driving and restarting it and i could actually drive it although it was still breaking up on the way up RPMs but not as bad. i tested the tps, new ect, new o2 sensor, adjusted the cas to see if that made any change and it didnt, set it back to 5deg. btdc, did a blt, new stock fuel pump, tryed 3 different mafs, checked the wiring, oulled the ecu, it didnt smell it looked fresh as can be,checked fuel pressure while driving it was around 40psi the whole time even breaking up then after i got into boost it would drop a little bit, im running out of options i need to fix this car asap if anyone can help i would really appreciate it also car is mostly stock, b.s. delete, arp head studs, mbc, 3in, turbo back, i apologize for the run on im just really frustrated with the car it was running perfect for weeks after i put a new head on
