Here is a video of what is happening,

It sputters really badly and wont stay running unless I pump the gas pedal. It also smells like it's running pretty rich. I did a boost leak test from the throttle body the other day and there is a major leak somewhere. It wont hold pressure at all and I can hear a loud rushing of air coming from somewhere around the exhaust manifold/ turbo area but I can't fins where the air is coming from. I sprayed it all down with soapy water and couldn't find anything so I'm a little stumped. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Your engine doesnt need to be at any positon for a blt. No matter what the intake and exaust valves should never be open at the same time so if air is in fact leaving your exaust you should redo a compression test to rule out things like bent valves or bad seals.

Damn that def sounds like your IC pipes have a major leak. As far as BLT goes, I was having the same issue of air just rushing into the engine and not being pressurized in the until I manually turn the engine to TDC (feel plenty compression) and guessed about *30 past it. Then I was able to find my boost leak culprit which was my TB shaft seals which is a Major PITA but fixable...same week I found it was the same week some asshole crashed into baby and totaled it while it was parked on the god damn street, can you believe that sh!t?! Any who...your leak definitely sound like a popped off IC coupler. So I suggest you get that BLT done "right way"and you'll be able to get to the bottom of this!

Yeah I know how much of a PITA the shaft seals are. I replaced those and cleaned my TB a while back. I also replaced the oring on the BISS. What I found to be even more of a PITA was changing the oring in the turbo. First I had to get the turbo out, then change the oring and get that stupid metal clip in and out of the turbo which was the hardest part for me, then put it back in.

Do stock ic piping have couplers? I thought the snorkle was one giant peice of plastic. No, you're right, I think there are two or three connectors

+1 on checking intercooler. Look there for gaps. When I took mine off, I saw that there was a small gap between the ic and housing. Not sure how I missed it, but it was noticible to the eye. Boost leaks suck and are a pita to find. If you run out of ideas on where to look for this leak, youtube blt and you'll maybe find something we have all forgot to mention.

Yeah I have a stock IC with stock piping. My talon is actually still completely stock. The hoses were attached to the IC pretty tight when I took it off. I'm going to pressurize just the IC today and see if it is leaking at all.

Just finished the blt on my intercooler. It holds 10psi without any problems at all. While I have it out I'm going to clean it but that's not where my leak is coming from. Any other ideas where it could be coming from

i had the exact same symptoms, turns out my head gasket blew and the air I heard was the air moving between the two cylinders. It blew between two cylinders so it couldn't keep pressure. I'd suggest a compression test. just to rule out hte head gasket if it were, one test I did was put in all the spark plugs and take out one and crank the motor with no spark, if you heard air rushing out, it meant the air from one of the cylinders is escaping into the other. Do it for all 4.

When my car did this, it sputtered and died on the street, felt like it was running on two cylinders. Turns out it was haha. Anyway, I had to keep pumping the gas pedal so the rpms wouldn't drop and die.

It's a stretch, but you might as well test it to make sure.

Watched your vid and it sounded and acted similar to my issue.

I did a compression test a while back but I will go pick up a compression tester tomorrow and do a compression test. Might take me a day or two since I pulled out the radiator, intercooler, and air can to make it easier to find leaks

its a stretch, I never thought it would be that but it was, took a good 1 inch chunk off it between cyl 2 and 3. Had 0 compression LOL. I hope you are lucky unlike me haha. I checked everything and wound up spending money on useless parts. But lets just say, every part from the block up has at least a 1 year warranty.

I was putting my talon back together today so I can do a compression test and I found this connector unplugged and I don't know where it goes.

It is in front of the side of the air can where the air enters the air can. I can't find where it goes so if anyone knows where it goes let me know

That connector might be for the headlamps i'll have to look on my car. Did you ever check your timing and fix up your boost leak tester? Still need some help I am available, I just had the baby so I have been busy. Also i would grab set ngk blue spark plug wires yours are pretty shot.

Fog lights. If your car doesn't have them, I bet that's what the connector's for.

My car doesn't have fog lights. I know it's not a headlight connector because I have both headlights off and I can see the two connectors for each side. The only reason why I don't think it's a fog light connector is because I can't find a connector like it on the other side.

Yeah the timing is good and I fixed my tester. I have a huge boost leak but I can't find where it is. It seems like the air might be rushing into the engine so I'm going to do a compression test and see what that tells me

I'm trying to figure out where this connector goes before I start the car in case it's something important. I looked on that Site you linked me to but I still can't find it

Alright so I just finished the compression test. Looks like the compression is pretty bad in all four cylinders.

Here's the compression from cylinder one to four (I think one to four, it was from the cylinder closest to the timing belt to the farthest)

115-110-115-120

Then I did a wet test and these are the results I got

140-140-130-120

I've heard having compression numbers jump after wet test signifies that your rings may be bad? Thats what I've been told. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can assist.

You made sure while doing the test you held the gas pedal all the way to the floor?

So did you try turning the crank? I'm having the same problem, but its midterms and havent found time to get back into the garage. But, I'm having the same exact problem. Once I figure out whats going on with mine I'll let you know. Some say TDC is the best or worst spot, I'm just going to have a friend turn the crank slowly while I pressurize and see if that helps at all.
