I was told to remove cruise control, I must get a non cruise control throttle cable. It makes sense. But is there any other way that will work that will save me some time and a little money from running to the junk yard?
Do they even make a non cruise control throttle cable for a turbo 2g? I thought all turbo 2g's had cruise control.
How do I take my cruise control out?

Why would you want to remove the cruise control? That's one of the best features ever put into a car, you will regret it when you decide to go on a long trip w/o it :notgood:

If you want to pull it you need a non cruise cable out of a 2.4L spyder. Mitsu PN MB948632. as for doing the work read the 5th post here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49940&highlight=remove

I am glad I got rid of mine, cleaned up the engine bay since I never used it, and dsmlink can actually read 100% throttle with out having to try and push my foot thrut he floor board. But I also got rid of the AC, heater core, blower, 90% of the interior and a few other things so its not my only car..... but the cruise removal was my "first mod", like 4 years ago back when it was my only car, put 80K miles on her and no complaint with not having cruise.

Also if you just want to clean up the engine bay without going through all that, what i simply did was remove the cruise control vacuem control thing (dont remember the name) right above the fuse box....then i disconnected the "second" throttle cable......it left the box by the fire wall but looks alot better with the vacuem thing removed....But obviously it would look better and be alot cleaner job if you change the cable.. :thumb:

Yea.....remove the whole vacuem assembly....bracket and all....then the cable that leads to the little black "box".....youll have to open the "box", i believe theres about 1 or 2 nuts...when u open that you can simply remove that throttle cable....the main one will still be there so there will be no problem with the pedal....also this way you can always put everything back together if you needed to...sorry if it sounds confusing....wish i had pics. :thumb:

I also got rid of my cruise controll and was able to do it with using the stock line, looks a lot cleaner becaue the line doesn't loop around by the fuel rail. It is some what of a custom job and I have no engine in the car right now to show you what I did. If you want PM me and I will do a write up for you.

I just took out mine. It certainly did clear up a bunch of room in the engine bay. Here are a couple pics of everything. The last pic shows what bolts to remove that are near the throttle pedal. And anybody know why the non cruise cable still wraps around the engine and not directly to the TB? Seems pretty excessive to me.

I just replaced it with a non-cruise cable.

What I thought would happen when taking out the cruise control is that the cable wouldn't loop around like the cruise control cable would. I wish it was just a straight line from that metal flange coming from the pedal directly to the TB.

unless your car is a damn race car then why even bother... jeez how pointless

Well, the use of cruise control varies from person to person. On long trips, not using cruise control is a good way of keeping you awake. Personally, I am more of a city person with very little to no constant speed, so I don't need it. If you commute a long ways without much traffic, you may want to keep your cruise control.

I don't see how taking it out is pointless, if anything it's a pain to have it in. When I drove from FL to NJ I found it annoying to have to keep turning it off and on everytime I had to hit the brakes. Not everybody uses it, so no need to have it there.

Sorry to hijack the thread but would it be possible to run the cable directly to the TB (green route) instead of the basic non-cruise route (red). It seems pretty unneccessary to loop it around.

well i dont use my rear seats, shall i just pull them out? WTF

its stupid, it takes away from the value of the car, do you plan to sell your car half ass later on? if youre looking for something to do to your car then go work a few extra hours and save up for something worthy and valuable.

and when you do take it off, send it to me as mine broke and i wouldnt mind a working one :p

Well if the person who owns the car does not want it then its their chioce to be able to remove it. I hate body kits with a passion but if they want to put it on thats their choice. As for actual performance gains, there are not really any, but on alot of cars you can use a logger and pressin the gas and see the throttle go to xx% not quite 100, I have seen them as low as 82%, but if you push really hard you can get it to read closer to the 100%, even adjusting it I have seen several local cars who could not get 100%. But after replacing that intermdiate llink assy, a quick push of the pedal easily yeilds 100-98% on the logger.

As for the short cable, usually the stock engine rocks quite a bit due to the soft factory mounts, the loop in the allows the throttle to work regardless of the engine movement. They are all factory pieces (throttle cable) desgined to work with other factory pieces (mounts). now after upgrading to prothen mounts, maybe you could rig up something that will be shorter, I just did not see a reason to do it.

as for the logger comment and throttle pos I still think this is what this guy suffered from:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185864 he just got more leverage pushing where he was.

Yes there is. If you completely take apart your cruise controll you will find that the origanal line that goes from the pedal to the cruise box is perfect length. But you must remove the piece that attached the line to the intake mani from the old line and remount it onto the short line. I was able to take if off with a harmer and a punch and just reclamp it with a pair of vice grips. Next set up the line so it is attached to the throttle body and find a good place to remount the piece. You might have to fine tune the line by bending the metal piece that come from the fire wall towards that drivers side slighly to gain some tension, you might also have to make a piece that will hold line down at a slight angle in between the throttle body and where it mounts to the intake mani so the line doesn't rub the piece that holds it down. Sorry I don't have any pics as of now, but hopefully by next week I will have my engine back in and take a few pics for you all to see. Once I attached it I check to see how it worked and it was perfect, opened and closed fully and when it was suppose to, and there is still room for adjustment at the intake mani mount like the stock set up.

Removing the Cruise Control isn't totally useless. For some people like Me for example, I was having a shit load of trouble with the CC. The CC kept my idle at 2k+ at warm temperatures. That CC cause the throttle cable to stick whenever it got hot and I couldn't get a normal idle. After I changed it out to a non-cc cable, Idle was perfect. I don't see it as a useless mod, because it also made the response to the throttle a lot quicker. You won't feel that slack that you have if you have that CC cable.

Plus, I bought the cable brand new for only $40 from Gary at MitsubishiGraveyard.

Thanks, I took the cruise control out.

Cool, remember, before you sell the car, you can always put them back in. If you want cruise control, you can put them back in.
