so i purchased a 1g after looking for a good amount of time, previously owned by a member of this board, the car came with the following

2g pistons
1g rods
HKS 264/272 cams
Buschur 20g turbo
EVO 550cc injectors
Eprom Stage 3 chip
Super AFC
Full 3in Exhaust no cat and muffler is hollowed out.
2g MAS
Speed Design Front mount intercooler(spray painted black) with 2.5 inch piping
Optima red top battery
2g exhaust
Autometer Boost gauge.
2g talon rims
Nitto Tires(practically new)
GR2 suspension all around.
Fluidyne Radiator with Spal Slim fans
scatter shield
4 spyder DIFF.
ACT 2100 clutch

now sry for all that info, but heres my problem, after buying the car, i took it to AMS to have it tuned, because i would like to see more than the 9psi it was set at, now of course the car came with issues, a ####ed up wastegate, botched oil return line,, thigns liek this, so before i could have it tuned i had the return line buttoned up, new plugs, wires, injectors, coil, all replaced. after driving the car home i turned onto an open road, stayed 100% out of boost and the rpms dropped to 0 and the car died, i got it on the shoulder and tried to restart it, to no avail, finally it backfired and chugged to a start, i limped it home and put it away. the next day i checked all plugs and connectors including what looks to be on the back of the block in front of the distributor, after snugging all plugs the car fired right up, any idea what could have caused the car to die like it did, as well as am i safe to continue driving the car?

We don't have a distributor on DOHC 4G63's so it's hard to understand exactly what your talking about.

Either make sure you have AAA in case you need a tow home or don't drive the car farther than you can walk home. From what your told us so far you still have lots of sorting out to do on your car.

If the wires came off the coil(not distrubuter) than that could have caused your problem. After looking at the mod list it seems it was only running 9psi since you dont have a fuel pump. Get a 255lph pump and AFPR

sry, i meant coil, and yeah the car does have a 255lph i forgot to list that, and it also has a AFPR, i included a picture below, my finger is on the plug that seemed to be causing me the most trouble, can someone identify it for me? thanks.

i made sure it was clipped 100% in and it fired right up, but i want to make sure that this plug has a good amount to do with the problem i was experiencing

Don't replace it! Rebuild it!!! The guys at Hahn Racecraft can take care of all that. The 20G is already quite a bit of Turbo... It definately needed more than 550's! No wonder you were only at 9 psi.

First im the one who used to own this car. Yes the car had minor issues, but it ran well. As far as the coil getting unplugged, this happened to me allllll the time.. We zipped tied it so it would stop popping off. It worked for awhile but i guess it fell off again. Also those are 690's not 550's unless you swapped in 550's which i have no idea why you would do that. Those 690's were rebuilt and everything with the engine rebuild.

Also did you ever tune the thing?? This car had sooo much potential.

Get that clip replaced from one in a junkyard and if you still have issues you can try spraying some water on the different components in the dark to find electrical shorts. Thats how I had to pinpoint my problem on my winter beater. Worked real well.

Really, really, really bad idea.

I get ECUs in all the time where the BCS, purge, or FPS driver is blown because somebody disconnected a solenoid and left the wires flopping around. Add some water and you have 12v being fed directly to drivers that expect a load and they go poof.

hey well the car blew the turbo up like previosuly stated, or at least thats what it looks to be at this point, the turbo was a goner, fins were bent and it was just fubared, but its all good i ordered a big16g and its in the process of being installed, of course im on spring break right now so my car just sits at my auto tech shop....either way i love the car and cant wait to get it running again :)

Good luck with getting it going again. The big 16g will still be enough turbo for you to have fun with. How bad off was the old turbo?
