What are your thoughts on this MBC. It has no name brand, looks like it might even be home made. It's going on ebay for cheap so I'm a little worried about that. Just trying to get some parts ready at home for when my car comes home.

A wingnut as a locknut? Interesting, to say the least.

The only problem seems to be that you can't adjust it down very far because the wingnut gets in the way....

Beware of the ebay MBCs. I have heard of folks having nothing but issues with those. I would stick with the proven products, ie, hallman, dejontool.

Looks just like the one I made for my car. Well, except the huge knob and wingnut. Mine has worked fine holds whatever I adjust it to. I think it cost me 10 bucks to make. Only problem I have had in like three years is the bolt came loose, after I had forgotten to tighten the jam nut, and the bolt/spring/ball shot out. But other than that, they work pretty good. :thumb:

looks like its home made; those parts can be purchase at ur local hardware stores.

I found a bunch of joe P. ones tonight for 25.00 on ebay, so I'll probably end up getting one of those.

Those dont look like they have any bleeder holes. I had issues with my old mbc that didnt have one. Crazy spikes and not being able to hold shit.

I'm 0 for 3 with ebay controllers. Never buying another ebay one again ever. Talk about some insane boost spike

Did you try putting teflon tape on the threads of the ebay ones? Mine didn't come with any on it, so I'm sure it'd leak like a sieve without it. I just took it apart and taped it up, and it works great.

Hey guys, I know this is old but since my "ebay MBC" came up, I have to mention this :). Just so there is no confusion- that is NOT the same controller on my site. I have had the "why pay $45 when this one is $25" question a couple of times and just wanted to clarify. The ebay one uses the old style spring and old hardware. While it works well, it is not the same by any means as the XZ. The XZ uses an improved spring that is custom wound for me and the new style adjusting hardware which in itself isn't cheap for me to buy. It also get a little more "attention to detail" during assembly.

Just wanted to make it known so there are no misunderstandings :).

an MBC is not a very complicated piece of equipment....the name brand ones just come in a pretty wrapper so to speak...this one looks a little skimpy, but should work just fine

This isn't 100% true. There are differences that will have a great impact on how they work. The weight of the ball and spring, spring rate, bleed hole size, quality of the machined seat for the ball (which I bet NONE of the eBay knock off's even have), quality of the machining on the parts used (see the post about leaky MBC's above :) ), assembly procedures, etc. which can only be determined with R&D and experience are what set the better controllers (mine, Hallman, Dejon, etc.) worlds apart from the knock off controllers. Anyone can take a ball, spring, adjusting screw, etc. and make a *functional* mbc- but that doesn't mean it is any good. Then again, if you honestly don't notice the difference- then these differences in quality wont mean anything to you- you can run your ebay MBC, ebay turbo kit and such and be happy running 13's and not know the difference :).

Heh- I just read rule #3 above "do not spread misinformation"- how true this is.
Joe P.
PS- Oh about the teflon- depending on how bad the leak is, this may help but if it is not too bad, it won't matter. Don't forget the MBC has a bleed hole in it also, so it will never be 100% air tight.

Boostvalve.com has one that is built pretty well. I would have bought another one if I hadnt found boostcontroller.com's closeout xz's
