It seems that The t3 flange (according to a gasket I have) is smaller in some places than the mitsubishi flange. Just looking at the T3 gasket it will barely have any surface to seal at the top and bottom where it is narrowest and the mitsu flange is widest, what did you guys do to seal the joint?

I'm afraid that it will begin to leak through time, very little of the gasket given to me with the plate makes contact. Also it seems like I will have to take out a sizable chunk of meat off of the T3 turbo in order to make the transitions flow smooth, turning a circle into a square and a sqare into a circle isn't the easiest looking thing. I found a picture here but with all the porting i don't know what gasket he used......

Any help would be tremendous.

You could always buy a new manifold, Turbonetics makes a cast one that will work, or you could get a turbular one if you have the cash.

I know this sounds stupid but it's true, lots of pro racers don't use gaskets between their turbo and manifold. They just make sure the two surfaces are perfectly flat and bolt them together. If that isn't something you want to do then I believe hahn racecraft makes the adapter and a gasket to go with it.

I"m not sure but I had always ASSumed that you used a mitsu gasket for the manifold-adapter flange, and then used a T3 gasket for the adapter to turbo flange.

By the way, are there ANY affordable T3/T4 turbo manifolds that are quality? which basically menas CAST pieces, not sheetmetal.

It depends on what "affordable" is. To me affordable is something that doesnt have to be replaced every 3 years. I know that Shearer offers a lifetime warranty on his manifolds and they appear to be very high quality as well as a true equal length manifold. Full-Race uses 8 gauge material and 1/2" flanges in their manifolds and they are robotic tig welded, they are very durabble from what I have heard from some Honda guys. The cost of these manifolds is probably double what most people want to pay for their manifolds but they wouldnt have to replace them every few years. I was hoping sbr would have made something with a t3 flange when they had their own cast manifolds made but that didn't happen.

It does and you do, it's just that the adapter plate is round. So is the mitsubishi flange......however the garrett T3 flange is rectangular. A suare-ish gasket just doesn't mate well with a round flange :) Hence my problem.

Slowboy makes a 1/2" thick adapter plate that allows you to run a Mitsu SBR manifold to a T3 turbo. However, the adapter plate is nothing more than a chunk of aluminum with the bolt pattern to the T3 on one side, and the bold pattern to the Mitsu on the other.

It does NOT create a smooth flow between the 2. VERY obstructive. My SBR manifold and T3/Mitsu adapter plate are on a UPS truck on their way back to Slowboy as we speak. Looks like I'll have to go with their stainless steel T3 equal-length header and hope it doesn't crack.

With some effort it can be a smooth however.......

I think my adapter plate was different though, because it was the size of the larger hole (Mitsu side), and in order to make it flow smoothly to the T3 side I would have had to add material and grind it.

Thanks! Thats my turbo and i did that in about an hour.
Anyways what i did was just match up the gaskets and blended accordingly.
the circular enterance matches the gasket and SBR manifold and the other end blends into the T3 flange and gasket. No tricks here i promise! :thumb:
