My friend gave me his t25 he had on his dsm and put on another t25 from a parts car he had on his. To make the story short, back then his car was smoking blueish-whiteish and after he recently fixed it, turns out his head was going bad and so replaced his head gasket and head (had a bad valve), and turbo all at once. He thought it was the turbo smoking but its hard to tell if it was the turbo as he changed the turbo and head all together. The turbo always spooled and up until the day he took it off it was still working. I need to get my car up and running asap as i need to drive it to get around. What do you guys think ? Maybe the turbo is good ? It looks healthy and has very minimal side-to-side play. Thanks in advance for any help.

YOu can still drive a car with a bad turbo. Just depends on what it is. I saw someone drive around with a turbo that the shaft was broken in two. IT ran like crap but it still ran. If it was only smoking i would say go ahead and see what happens....

Yeah i was at one point thinking of driving the car as is, but for the sake of it i just want to have a working turbo on it. I don't even know if the turbo is bad, it is hard to say if it is ever since my friend replaced all the parts on his head. My turbo spins but makes no boost since there is so much side to side play that it hits the wall.

Ya it would take an hour or two to switch it out. Might as well try it. And you live in warm weather so the winter doesn't effect you.

I guess i should give it a shot. Lets see what happens. If it was the turbo smoking what do you think might be failing ? If it is something small i can always tear the turbo before i install it and rebuild it.

The t25 isin't worth fixing. I would run it like it is, should last a good while. You should just replace it with a 14b or something a little bigger next time.

My plans are to get a complete 16g kit but that will be later this year. I just need a quick replacement for the meantime to get going.

Anybody? I need a quick reply.
No thread bumping on this site. Please be patient and wait for a reply.

Install the T25 and drive it. Minimal shaft play is a good sign, so you probably won't have any issues. If you get the James Bond smoke screen while boosting on it, then that means the seals are shot. But, you won't know until you try it.

A T25 is an excellent street turbo. It'll get wheezy at around 5K, but at speeds below that, and especially from 3K to 4K -where most street driving is done- it's more than capable. It's just not a track blower.

I think im just going to swap it out for the other t25 with new gaskets and see how it goes. Thanks guys.
