Alrite i dont know much about crankwalking except that it happens alot to the 2g DSMs. I havent had happen to me yet *knocking on woods* but my mileage is 142k now and still no sign of crankwalking. Im thinking about swapping to a 6 bolt but not now. My first question is if swap my 7bolt shortblock to a 6bolt shortblock, would that solve and prevent crankwalking? I have heard that the 6bolt can handle more power then 7bolt, stock wise. My plan is to rebuilt my 2g head and keep my rebuilt head and swap my 7bolt shortblock to a 6block. That way i can have both strong top and bottom. Plus i would save alot of money and the get the most out of it.

If you already have that many miles you will most likely not get it at all, so I would not worrie about it. Crankwalk is overrated, happens less than you think. Actually my mechanic believes he can build a more balance 7 bolt stroker than a 6 bolt. He says the 6 bolt makes a better high reving 2.0 than a 7 bolt. Sounds like you have a good plan but do a compression check and if its fine I would just build the 7 bolt untill it blows.

I agree. It is rare to hear of a car walking at anything over 100k miles so I wouldn't worry about it. As far as swapping a 6 bolt block I would just leave your stock 7 bolt in there and rebuild that when it goes. No reason to switch to a 6 bolt really unless it goes and that is all you have laying around. To many people think that every 7 bolt is gonna walk and they need to put a 6 bolt in. I have even seen people mistake crankwalk for a blown headgasket because the cylinder filled up and wouldn't turn over. I then bought that car and fixed and resold it for a pretty penny...shhh... All in all just stick with what you got.

Yea im not worrying about crankwalking now. Im just trying to get the most power out of the engine til it blows and swap it to the 6 bolt. But the thing is i dont want to spend money rebuilding a 7 bolt and have it blow and then swap it to the 6bolt. I rather spend the money on the 6 bolt block then the 7 bolt. But my main question is if i swap a 6bolt short block thats already rebuilt to my 2g head, will it still crankwalk? Will it be crankwalk-prove?

Had a friend get crankwalk at 110K miles, so it may be rare but can happen. Like stated i would ride out the 7-bolt and in the process save come money because you can probably get a 6-bolt for the cost of the 7-bolt rebuild. Prefference plays a key roll - Goodluck

6-bolt rods are strong and pistons are weak
7-bolt Rods are weak and pistons are strong

but if i rebuilt my 7 bolt shortblock there is still a good chance of crankwalk. Im not worry about my 7bolt crankwalking at all. I just afraid that if i rebuilt my 7 bolt, it might crankwalk on me. Thats why i want to swap it to a 6 bolt shortblock to prevent the crankwalking.

unless you do something wrong if you rebuild and you haven;t before then you might want to get some help, my brother has 171k on a stock 7 bolt original engine too.

There is VERY minimal chance of crankwalk with a rebuild and next to zero if you use aftermarket bearings. Theoretically any motor can crankwalk. But on a rebuild a 7 bolt would be just as good as a 6 if you used all aftermarket parts.

alrite thats good to know. But in rebuilding i need what....pistons (maybe keeping the 2g pistons and rods, bearing, balance shaft remove, and what else?...studs? This is just the shortblock not the head.

check the pistons, re ring it, check the bore with an insdie micrometer see if it needs a bore or a hone replaced the bearings acl or clevite 77 all bearings freeze plugs just go through the whole thing i don't really want to type everything out right now

well im not doing the rebuilt myself but im having my friend do it for me because i dont want to touch any internals stuff. But as far as parts....do i need anything else other than the ones i have listed and the bearings?
