You may be right , and either way you look at it if you have an AT cut thruogh the BS and get a full race trans if your looking at making serious power and good times. It gets costly just doing the minimums and have to replace stuff after a few hard runs and endup gettting a new trans. So dish it out once and never look back.

It's hard to hear that car shift- I only count once, but again I can't hear it well. A powerglide perhaps?

Any as far as the Mitsu trans and a traditional installation in a DSM is concerned, there have been two people that I know of who have run in the nines since the last post in this thread.

I think that there are a couple of Colts and an Evo outside the US also in the nines with a Mitsu trans.

We have been very encouraged by the results of our autos holding power.

In Russ' car we had the trans in the car all season running 9 and low 10 second passes.

Next season, between lightening the car, lots more tune up, and something pretty revolutionary regarding the torque converter set-up, we are expecting to go much faster.

On a side note, the 9.70 pass that was made was only at 139 mph because the motor lost a cylinder at half track.

The car has been 144 (I think) so if the engine held, we were probably looking at a 9.40 or 9.50 on that particular run.

There are a lot of hacks out there who claim to build a race trans like 98TalonTsi mentioned. But when it comes down to it, you are not going to be disapointed with IPT, plain and simple...

yeah from what I heard...when I re-graduate college I plan on getting his race built trans for my gsx...mated to a 2.3l stroker. I am planning on building the ultimate cruiser, with gobs of low end torque. But then again I may just be dreaming...

Yes! IPT is the where to go if you want a AT trans build that will hold 4G63T power for both the street and strip. John put a trans together for me that has performed beyond my expectations, I thought with a upgraded shift kit and end clutch the stock trans would hold for ever, didn't happen. John's trans rebuild with his "James Bond Stuff" in the VB, pressure control box and forward clutch pack have created positive shifts on the strip while giving streetable reliability for my trans. With a best ET of 11.03(without NOS) this year, in a full weight(3435 lbs., full leather interior, etc) AWD AT car, one can only reflect that the rebuilt from IPT has put the power where it belongs and with John's help I hope to run my street driven car into the high ten's next year. Oh; I am also using John's switchable push button shifter, flip a toggle and we can shift manually, flip it back and the trans shifts auto, another great first from IPT..

I have seen your car Bob and that thing is awsome!!! And when you say full wieght thats full wieght, plus extra! I"m not have the best luck finding an auto car for cheap, so I may go with the dogbox, but if something comes up before then I will forsure have IPT set me up with a strong trans......... Lee

I would also be interested in an auto AWD DSM. My only thing is, there arent many autos cutting 1.6x or lower 60ft times. If I could do that with an auto I would be sold.

1.74 W/ stock 205/55R16 junk tires. I think with my mods I have now, on drag radials I might be able to get 1.6s or maybe even 1.5s if im lucky. I finshed my car after the track was closed.

How fast were you able to go with just the shift kit and end clutches? I'm getting ready to build an A/T car here (couldn't pass up a 94 Tsi Awd A/T for $1500). I've got a 2.3L stroker and an FP Red here waiting to go in. I'm just trying to do some research on the tranny mods. I only wanna yank that thing out ONCE! I wouldn't mind a mid 11 sec. daily driver. So what all do I need to have done to the tranny to hold that kind of power? I've looked at the IPT site. Is their W4A33 rebuild kit a necessity? Or will the stock tranny hold this kind of power? My car is bone stock, was lady driven, so it's never been beat on. What about their custom hi-stall converter? Can I get away with a stock converter with the 2.3L and a 60-1? Or will the car just fall on it's face when I come out of the hole? I'm looking for a ballpark figure on $$ I need to make the car do what I want. This is going to be a 100% daily driver, so I don't need a full blown "race tranny". Thanks for the input.

I went 9.68 @ 143 with my Colt, but I probably have a little more in it. I built the tranny at home with just the alto friction kit and have a billet Precision Converter stalling at about 3500, then about 4500 or so on a 50 shot. I used the translab shift kit and I shift it manually with the solenoids.(no TCU, Thanks Kevin!)

I've only got about 3 good passes, this year, I ran 9.6 and 9.7 with a bad alternator and running 10.0 volts when I was going through the traps (explains the missfire I was getting).

I'm going to actually try and get the car running this year on a built shortblock and get into the 8's myself, but I am going to have to go to a taller final drive to do it. I'm already at 28 in slicks right now.

I have been thowing around this swap idea for awhile now too. I pretty much know whats involved and thats what keeps me from moving forward with it. From what I see per Mits Caps and DSM manual, TC's are different, axles are different, rear diff different and then all the electronics phewwww. Getting the tranny to hold up for heavy street use doesn't seem to be a problem. Theres lots of upgrades out there. Its just the swap that seems the biggest issue. Has anyone actually converted an MT Awd to AT Awd and are there any shortcuts with the electronics?
