Suspension/ Trailing Arm

I went to the mechanics shop about 5 months ago to ask why the right side of my car was making this bad crunching sound when I made turns or went over bumps and they said that the trailing arm was bad and that my car needed a front end alignment. The total came to about 700. I want to know why it's that expensive or are they just trying to charge too much. Also, is it something that could be replaced at home to save some money?

Yes it is something you can do at home. Jack it up and check out the rubber bushings on all the arms that way you know which ones are bad. Typically (I can't remember the name of this one..) but it's the curved arm (maybe control arm?) that typically go bad on our cars. I ordered mine on JNZ and got OEM replacements.

The name of the curved lower arm in the front of a 2G is "compression arm." But the most-likely bushing to rip on a 2G seems to be that between the upper rear arm and the rear knuckle, especially when someone lowers the car and doesn't recenter the bushing.
