i searched the forums and the vfaq to find out what type of suspension a 1992 awd dsm has. im interested in knowing what type of suspension is on the front and what type in the rear. for example, macpherson, short-long arm aka double wishbone suspension, etc.
also, what type of steering? rack and pinion, conventional steering gear, etc.

if theres already a thread with this info, a link will suffice. i couldnt find anything when i searched. thanks in advance

thanks guys. those links are very helpful.
i could have gone outside and looked at my dsm to see what suspension it has, but i have it out in tx and im out here in ca, so thats why i was asking. i figured it had rack and pinion steering, but i just wanted to be sure.
so 2gs have double wishbone suspension? interesting.
anybody care to debate on which suspension is better for handling, mcpherson strut suspension or short long arm suspension?

I don't think there is much discussion to be had. The guys who really focus on handling like the autocrossers pick 2G's. However that's not to say that the 1G hasn't done well on the track and in parking lots.

1g Macpherson doesnt compare to 2g Double wishbone.

Evo/STi Macpherson is a different story cause the car is a better package (MUCH stiffer, better diffs, shorter gearing, more support, etc). Also, the evo's have to run a ton of caster, but are able to get it +8-10*, along with -2.5 to -4* of camber.

Another thing, I dont think anyone makes roll center correction kits for 1gs where IIRC theyre needed pretty badly. Evo's need them in the rear and of course they are available.

whats this roll center correction kit?? what is its purpose? i imagine it helps reduce body roll... but how?

Youll have to look up how you calculate the roll center cause its just possible for me to describe it in words. But essentially when you lower a 1g the lower arm moves past horizontal and at that point the roll center starts dropping quite a bit. The lower it drops the greater the moment between the center of mass and roll center causing more roll.

and how does the roll center correction kit fix that? if the control arm is moves past horizontal, how would a correction kit get it back to horizontal, or what does it do to get the roll center back up to within spec, if that is what it does?

gotcha. and im guessing nobody has tried an evo roll center correction kit on our dsms to see if theyre compatible. somebody should try it out. if offered for 3kgts and stealths, would they possibly fit our 1g dsms the same way the rear camber correction kits work for us?
