Abbotsford,
Sunroof on a 1997 Talon/Eclipse rattles over every bump... Also noticed that when driving on the highway over 160km/h the seal breaks loose and you can hear the air coming in...Never used to happen. As well after car wash etc, getting some leakage.

Any ideas on what i need to fix or replace?

Thanks!

My 96 GS had the same problem for awhile.

If you open the sunroof and look on either side, there are (I'm almost positive) 6 screws...all of which have star heads. All you do is get one of those star shaped bits of the appropriate size and tighten the 6 screws.

Check those first, there easy to find and tighten and in my experience they are the first things in the sunroof assembly to loosten.

^ ^ ^ - Yup. Six Torx screws. Factory spec calls for the rear of the glass to be installed 1mm higher than the front.
I have no idea from heaven nor hell how you'd go about measuring that with any accuracy.

You should be able to see a little ring scratched off from where the screws were.
They were in spec at one point or another, so chances are those set of scratches should more then likely give you the proper adjustment height.

Is there a wrap around seal or anything rubber that gets replaced ever in the sunroof?

No, those screws just gets loose over time.

Well there is a weather stripping/gasket type of thing that seals up against the glass. You could always check into that if the screw tightening thing doesn't work out.

Also... this should probably go without saying... with the sunroof open make sure all the tracks and assembly are clean of leaves and dirt and debris so that there is a clean mateing surface between the sunroof and the car itself.

Correct. It's built into the bottom of the hard piece of plastic that connects the glass to the assembly.

good luck

this may be off topic but could those screws be the same reason that i have to pull the automatic sunroof forward while closing to get it to close all the way?

Tracks could need to be cleaned or else the motor may just be wearing out. Only way to really find out is process of elimination. Start with the screws (even though i don't think its related to your issue)and work your way through it.
