I've saved my self a little money this summer for my motor rebuild that I have been planning on doing for a long time. My car currently has 148k miles on it, pretty rusty struts, and just a whole lot of things that need to be freshened up. This isn't going to be one of those all out engine builds, but rather a fresh start.... a clean, fresh start. I'm planning on doing a stock rebuild with arp studs and a stronger headgasket. This is going to be on a small budget. 1200 is my spending limit. And thats not even counting in the transmission.

Speaking of the transmission; now I have to decide whether to take up space in the garage and piss off my parents while I save up to get the tranny built. Or just put the old one back in and beat it till it goes. The tranny really doesn't have any problems, but I would like that peace of mind.

I'm trying to get this done this august when I go to college this fall at the latest. In the mean time, I will be riding my bike (yamaha r6) in the rain or shine. Or if it happens to be thundering, I'll have to pick up my dads pickup which would force him to bring his semi home. Bet he'll be happy about that.

As it sits now, all I have to do to get the motor out is pull the mounts and hoist it up. Sounds simple right? I'm sure it won't be.... Any suggestions/tips before I try to yank it.

Good luck man. I'm doing the same - building a spare block on a budget ($1200-$1400). Nothing wrong with my engine, just needs a little freshening up - losing a little bit of compression (1G with 130K miles).

What are your plans for the head? block? what else are you going to address?

I'm building my block using Eagle Rods mated to 2G pistos - IMO most bang for my money. Will be using ARP studs also. Anyway, keep us updated.

^^^ I'm going to reuse as much stuff in the head as possible. I will just have my machine shop make sure it's all in spec.

Whenever you get to tearing everything apart it will really pay to make sure you have plenty of room to neatly lay everything out, especially if you break the head down. Speaking of which, lapping your valves wouldnt be a bad idea and can easily fit into any budget.
