I'm about 2 hrs into this impreza 5apd. It won't stab. I didn't replace the clutch so it shouldn't be alignment issues. Nothing was taken apart with clutch/flywheel. I've done countless dsms. I know how to align a transmission.

I'm not sure what to suggest, as I don't know what's holding it back. Maybe the rear of the engine isn't low enough. Perhaps try readjusting the engine and having a second look through the tunnel to see what is hanging it up. It is a fun job on the floor as with any transmission. Oh, how a lift and transmission jack makes everyone's life easier.

Well I found the problem. Not used to this on a manual, the pilot bearing was trashed. Like balls actually falling out etc. I got it stabbed but the last 1/4" still fought me. Had to install bolts and pull it on. I didn't have to wrench hard but I thought for sure it would just go on but it never did. Kid can button it up tomorrow. I did the hard parts.hopefully this is good but I sure don't feel good about like I have for many dsm jobs. We will see.
Thanks for the suggestions. For sure anybody doing this needs a way to move the motor around. I had a ratchet strap and that worked well.
