I havent changed an axle in a long time on a car, specially dsm, so this seems like a rather dumb question to me but I figure its always best to ask, if youre pulling out the drivers side axle out of a awd 5 speed, trans fluid should come out? or was it the passengers side? Thanks for response.

Doesn't matter. Have a catch pan under the trans and when you are done. Last step is to fill the transmission to capacity. No matter if fluid runs out or not.

Good Luck
