Stupid question, but wanna make sure...

My tranny has no fluid in it. If I put it in neutral and start the car, does the tranny spin at all or only when you put it in gear? I want to start the car up, but if the tranny spins a little while in neutral, I don't want to burn up the gears or anything since there's no fluid in it right now.

Your input shaft is still spinning. Put oil in it.

If 5spd

Yes in neutral your cars transmission spins, everything but the output shaft. It stays disconnected until you put it in gear. Depending on how long you are goin to run the car you should be ok with no fluid. Just dont run it so long parts get hot and dont have the fluid to cool them down and lubricated. That is when you will have problems. But if you are just tryin to start it to see if it starts and what not, go ahead i dont see how you will mess anything up. The fluid is used only for lubrication and cooling.

Dont start it without fluid in the transmission.

It's a 5 speed. I just won't bother with it until I fill it back up...thanks guys
