Okay, my tranny isn't bad and my clutch isn't gone yet, but I do know it had been starting to slip. Also, the car would grind going into second quick at high RPMs, all normal for a car with 125K miles on it.
Well, on saturday I was driving out to see my friend and I decided to do a quick take off and do a power shift to second when it just didn't go in gear and ground pretty bad. It had happened before so I didn't think much of it. After that, i just put it back in neutral, let the clutch out, put the clutch back in and went to put it in easy and it ground a lil going in, but still went in. Ever since then, it grinds going into second even in an easy shift. I can get it to go in with out grinding if i just hold the clutch in and just kinda let the shifter feel an opening to fall into second. (or that's at least what i feel like it's doing, but it works to get in). This is extremely annoying tho because I'm just sitting there with the clutch in while my revs are falling down and im just slowing down. But no matter what, it won't ever ease into second from third in this manner. I have gotten it to go in without trouble maybe once with doing a double clutch rev match, but not often. although that could just be because I suck at doing such a thing
.
Is it most likely that I just completely destroyed that synchro and just be really careful not to destroy the gear before I get it replaced? And how much would I be looking to spend if I were to do the work myself?
