-Long story short.. I have a 99' GS with a fully rebuilt oem motor. Ive put about 2,500 miles on the motor and everything is fairly stock and no serious modifications. Anyways, I have this odd oil drip once the car is shut off. I always get a little drip of motor oil running down my oil filter once the car is shut off and cools down. Now, I know there is a ton of write ups about this issue, but none have answered my question. I have started from top to bottom, replacing the valve cover gasket, changing the crank position sensor and o-ring, and even changed the backing plate where the oil filter mounts to the block. After all this work, I still get the stubborn oil drops on my driveway from up above. These three variables are the only source I can think of where this oil drip can be coming from since the drop comes down right underneath them. I only lose about a 1/4 of a quart of oil from a 1,000 miles of normal driving. I also dont ever exceed the max fill line when topping off my oil. I dont believe in using that stupid stop oil leak stuff in my brand new motor. Anyone else ever experience this issue?:hmm:

the oil filter housing has two o rings to it. one o-ring is for the oil filter istelf and another one sandwitched between the oil filter housing and the block. it can leak from there. theres also an o-ring between the bed plate (or sometimes called the cradle) that servs as a gasket for oil between the two. it can leak from this spot as well. the best thing to do is put the car up onto a jack stand and run the car for a while and clean off any oil residue in the area then shut if off and watch were its coming from.

This is true but you would be seeing that leak during pressure. So while the engine is running. I would make sure you dont have a sensor that is loose or leaking. Oil pressure sensors leak a lot. Just look for a trail and if it is is only at the filter check your oil ports on the filter housing.

The cradle and oil filter plate o-rings have both been replaced during the overhaul. Im wondering if the oil pressure sensor could be the source. I will take it off and apply some fresh Teflon tape to it. Worst comes to worse I will apply that dye in the oil to find where the source is also.
