What's up, guys? I've got a (hopefully) simple problem that I could use a little advice on. Several months after I bought my car, my cruise control just suddenly...didn't work one day. The damn thing just won't "arm", as I call it...hey, I'm a big computer flight sim freak, what do you want? When I push the rocker button on the dash, the light will turn on, but as soon as I let it go, it shuts off and the car won't cruise, as if I'd never even tried to turn it on in the first place. Now...If I hold that button down and set the cruise, it'll go all day long, all day strong...until I let go of the button, then the light on the rocker switch goes out, the light in the instrument cluster goes out and it stops cruising as if I'd reached over and shut it off. I don't think anything's wrong with the cruise control system itself, but with the switch...but I have no idea what that could be. Every once in a while, when the car feels like it, if I press the button to arm the cruise control again and again and again and again, it'll come on and stay on like it did a couple days ago.
That's what leads me to believe it's just a switch issue. Could the contacts be dirty? Could there be a loose wire back there? Maybe I just need a new switch? If anyone's ever run into this problem before, I'd really appreciate the help. There have been a couple times recently where I've been on longass stretches of boring highway at one constant speed and I would've killed to be able to set the cruise.
As a little background that might be related...less than a couple weeks after I got the car, I brought it to Satan while it was still under warranty so they could look at the alarm system. It would, and still DOES!!, arm all by itself after about 30 seconds. No matter what unless the engine's running. I can have the doors unlocked, the keys in the ignition turned on, the windows down, radio on...and it'll set. Unfortunately, it's not the factory alarm, so there's not a damn thing they can do about it. (If anyone's familiar with alarm systems, this one's made by Code Alarm, I could use some help with that too.) ANYWAY...sorry. They called and told me they couldn't fix it because it's not original equipment, so I went down to pick up my car. When I got there, I noticed that the trim piece in the dash (a bezel, if I'm not mistaken) with the cruise switch and the little blinking alarm light was loose. I asked them about it and they said they broke one of the plastic tabs when taking it out. The piece stays in the dash okay, but I could probably easily pull it off without having to pop it off like I normally would. Could they have messed something up when they pulled off that piece of the dash? If so, this late in the game...I've had the car for about two years now...is there anything I can do to make them fix it? Thanks again, and sorry about the novel length post. Peace.
