Struts and shocks for 2g eclipse

Okay this is my second post so far, I'm on a roll now :p Anyway, I was just curious as to the suspension layout on the 2g eclipse. Does it have struts on all 4? Or 2 struts and 2 shocks? I've been told so many different things, and I would check myself, but I don't have my eclipse yet, I'm in the process of getting a GS-T.
 
Depends on your definition. If you say a strut is a shock surrounded by a compressed coil spring with the strut type of bracket mount at the spring top attached to the body and a perch holding the spring bottom halfway down the shock then yes, it has a strut on every wheel. Some people, including Mitsubishi, don't call them struts because there is an upper suspension arm which the wheel hub's knuckle attaches to. Everyone will agree it is at least not a MacPherson strut which have no upper suspension arm at all but rather attach right to the body through a special upper mount bracket (where the entire force is transferred from the wheel hub) and which on the front wheels, turns with the wheels when turning the steering wheel (the whole strut turns along with the mount). On a 2g, the strut does not turn at all when turning the steering wheel. Instead the knuckle turns on the upper and lower suspension arms (upper is a wishbone). So the struts upper mount is fixed (does not turn). On the fronts, the bottom of the struts attach to a damper fork (which the axel goes through) which attaches to the lateral lower arm which is attached to the knuckle (which has the wheel hub) by a ball joint.

Mitsubishi calls them a shock absorber assembly (which includes coil spring). Even so however, most people will call them struts and we all know what they mean. In fact if you call them a shock absorber assembly at an auto store people may look at you funny and you may only get the shock itself portion. So does that help any or is it more confusing?

Oooooooooooooh that actually clears up a lot of confusion haha, thanks a lot man :) And LOL that did make me chuckle xD And just one more question, oh DSM wiseman; If I were to buy KYB AGX adjustable shocks, would they replace the struts? Would I have to buy 4 of them to take place of the 4 struts?
 
Yes, you'd need and 4 and 4 would do it, but, please, don't get AGXs. They're awful. Stay stock until you can afford Konis.
 
I just got the tokico illumina with lowering springs for really cheap brand new. And I am extremely happy with the ride. Extremely.
 
I was looking at the Koni Yellows and they seem amazing. I might just go with those. But if the Toxico Illuminas provide a nice ride, then I might go with those. Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it :)
 
guys im in a war for the most comfort ride i have Monroe Sensa-trac struts on all 4 wheels(last owner :notgood:) on my GST Spyder and i must say that these totally blow!!! when i see construction up ahead or bad roads i really dont see them at all instead i live on a fualt line when driving down the street with my spyder "koni" to expansive what do u guys think on KYB, Gabriel the last owner had lifetime warrn. he gave me the info in case they go out but i hate em no doubt:hellyeah:
