Sylvan Lake,
Hey guys,

I took my car to get dyno tuned last week but before we did that we did a leak down test which unveiled 13% leak down in cylinder 4. I decided to go for the gusto and look at my engine stroking options (something I've been meaning to do at some point anyways). Anyways, I've commited myself to an $8000 price cap for the complete rebuild and hoping to make 600WHP sometime in the future.

The kit I'm looking at is a 2.4L stroker which includes:

-100mm 4340i crank
-4340 H beam rods
-JE pistons (my choice of compression)
-Rings
-93 series pins
-Balanced

That alone comes to $2830. Assembled with clevite bearings and ARP studs bumps it up to $5100. That all includes the machining as well. With the bearings and ARP studs, Greddy timing belt and labour they quoted me just under $8000. This is an extremely rebutable shop and they know my car better than God.

I'm just kind of wondering if thats about ballpark for what some of you guys paid? Also, would it be worth it to use my stock 7 bolt block for the machining or get the 6 bolt for a few hundred more dollars (hopefully) and a little bit more of a hassle?

Thanks in advance,
Cody

Seems high considering you can buy long blocks from buscher or slowboy or whoever for a lot less....... and you dont have to wait as long.

Exactly what I was going to say.

That assembled price you gave should include a FULL BUILT HEAD w/ Cams and a timing kit, new oil pump and water pump.

Buschur doesn't do strokers for DSMs to my knowledge. When I called them last year on the phone they quoted me very high for a fully assembled long block and wouldn't touch a a stoker (2.3 or 2.4).

Slowboy builds amazing engines. They will get you a 2.4L block and fully assemble it ready to drop in. just bolt your accessories, turbo, intake mani, thermostat housing, etc. and you're good to go. It's fully times and ready.

I run their 2.4L and it's flat out sick. I'm well into the 500whp range. I dynoed @ 375whp on a Vtrim @ only 18psi. since then the I've switched to a BW S285 28psi pump gas, BC280s and a far more aggressive tune.

If you want a bulletproof bottom end go with MANLEY I BEAMS and Your JEs or if you wanns save some cash WISECO are also great. I run a stock crank, but there are many billet options for you as well. They will take care of you, give them a call.

this is the engine to buy. HANDS DOWN:

Thanks for the kind word guys - Both Garrett and Scott :)

Cody I am sending you a PM with some options! Right now a stage 2 longblock with some extra options I have you just around $5900 with shipping to you included!!

Sorry to bring up a dead thread. I blew a hole in cyl #2 and was thinking about doing a stroker. Im trying to figure out which is better. I am just confused on what im going to do. I want to hit a mid 12 and I will be happy.

I have searched on Slowboy and I like the rotating assembly but im just not quite sure on whats the best option. what does a stroker do vs boring .020 over?

Pimking, Im not going to really answer your question but I'm just going to throw my opinion in there. I would go with the Stage 2 2.3L stroker engine (short block) from slowboy racing. The Stage 2 2.3L stroker is a 2.4L crank with a 2.0L motor with of course better internal parts. Since I'm in the military they will give me a good deal on it because I already asked them last month.

Boring .20 over is not going to get you anymore power, its done to straighten out the cylinder walls if they are out of round.

Darren at FFWD Connection is amazing . . . He will answer any & all questions you may have, His customer support is fantastic. I`m running one of his 6 bolt Stroker xp shortblocks in my 2G, & it`s everything it`s advertised to be & more . . . it runs like a raped ape with the original ported 2G head, & Crower 264/272 cam combo . . . it`s an awesome combination . . . :talon:

PIMKING, I don't believe the bore can be compared with a stroker because a stroker is considered a complete internal kit, I guess you can put it in that term. Bore is considered part of the cyl wall, that will go with the pistons you decide to get and what you are trying to accomplish.
