So after installing my e16g 2yrs ago I take it off to do some other stuff and strip 3 of the four treads in the housing. One place wants to weld the holes closed and drill and re-tap. One shop just said buy a new housing or turbo. And one would heli-coil it for $150 but does not suggest it due to the heat. Has anyone heli-coiled theres before? Any advice?

if i were you, i would spray weld the holes shut then re-drill and tap them. It will be like brand new, and it is the best repair you could do short of slapping on a whole new housing.

Why even go that far. I stripped mine out and just re-tapped them. It took me about 10 minutes. I went with a 3/8 - 24 bit, bought new bolts and it was done.

If you do decide to just tap them a little bigger make sure you get bolts that can withstand that kind of heat that the turbo sees. Otherwise the next time you take it off you might have to deal with broken bolts stuck in the holes.

I had the exhaust housing on my 16G heli-coiled. It held up fine for over a year.

Thats good to know. I did find a site that sells Titanium bolts/nuts, anyone know if ti can take the heat?

Titanium is very corrosion resistant and can handle very high temperatures. They use some alloys of it for turbine engine hotside parts and certain compressor parts(whatever isnt stainless or inconel).
