Strange Smell with fan on???

Hi,

I do not know whether it is me or just my luck but this is my second Eclipse and I notice a strange problem. Everytime I turn on the fan, I get this weird smell, not like a mechanical burned thing but just regular smell you get from something stale or dirty. I use air freshener but still it just mixes the smell. I heard that I can change the cabin filter, do you think there could be something stuck there that I could clean - where do I locate this filter btw?

Have anyone of you had this problem, this is my second Eclipse and it happens again

I'm not sure about this cabin filter, but I do know that small animals have gotten into the blower motor under the passenger side of the dash, and you may have something dead in there. Good luck in figuring out where the smell is coming from.

Does it smell like cucumbers at all? Whenever I turn my heater on thats what it smells like I don't mind it though cuz I like cucumbers.

In my case its only the heater.

one reason why you shouldnt eat in you car....cucumbers just go flying places and get stuck...and then your stuck with the cucumber smell...

strangely enough I got the smell only when the fan is on. Once I put the A/C, the smells diminishes and eventually disappears. I do not get it, isn't the A/C just the fan air moving through some type of A/C engine to make it cold?

You guys know that parts store sell cleaners that are just for cleaning the A/C evaporator and what not. its a spray with a long nozzle or tube depending which one you get, that gets sprayed in there and kills bacteria, mold, etc......... fairly cheap to

I had dead field mice in mine. I had to take the whole dash apart and wash it with bleech water 3 times before i got the smell away.

do you spray this into the vents of the dash or somewhere under the hood where the ac is located?

Have you tried it yourself and can you recommend us a brand? I will check with Autozone

i don't recall the brand i used, it was many years ago. There are 2 ways to use it.

1. By another rubber hose that will fit the can (very long to) so you can fish it through a vent back to the A/C core and you can also spray the ducting as you are fishing it through.

2. Drill a hole throuh the housing that holds the core and then spray the stuff in through the small hole. Next use silicone to plug the hole.

if you do a good job and there is no dead bodies (animal) in there the smell should go away
