strange miss in 1st gear at 4000 rpms

If I do a hard to medium start, once my car gets up to 4000 rpms it skips then instantly up to 7000 rpms in a half a second. needless to say, I try to stay away from launching or any aggressive driving in first gear. If I just drive normal it runs normal no problems and every other gear runs fine as well no issues like this. To be on the safe side I changed my caps in my ecu, not sure if it was the limited space or it being a 20 yr old board but I had a tough time getting the leads of the old caps out which is a little embarrassing as I do similar stuff everyday at work on change machines. but changed them no difference. shortened my log tonight to limit it to just before and just after I did the first gear pull.

Is your clutch slipping?

haven't noticed it in any other gear not sure if that rules out the clutch or not. ive changed my spark plugs 3 times since it started happening so I know its not them and I change my wires about 2 months ago. clutch seems like a possibility. hope I can get some other ideas to try before going through that though.
