is it ok to cut the cat and muffler and replace with lengths of pipe for a straight through exhaust?

aside from being loud.. i dont have to worry about burnt valves and stuff right?

a clogged cat or muffler would. too much backpressure would cause a extreme scavengeing effect. . considering my boost controller is cranked.. and yet i cant boost a 16g above 9psi.. and my air fuel ratio guage is pegged rich.. then i took the exhaust off at the 02 housing and it fixed itself.. boosted to 25psi and the guage read slightly lean..

That is actually one of the first things you want to do to a DSM. The factory exhaust is very restrictive. Just don't go to big or you may run into boost crep problems. 2.5in would be big enough for a relatively stock car.

the car sat for a couple years before we got it.. there were spiders between the flex plate and torque converter LOL.. so who knows maybe a rat made a next in the exhaust.. but i plan on cutting it and running straight pipe..

im sorry but theres nothing shitty sounding about a dsm with straight through exhaust..
still way better than that rice wing wing bullshit that civics have LOL!!

Good point. . . And now I need to find some one to do a 3" exhaust for my AWD.. .After finding the oil leak. And the power steering leak, and the carrier bearing bushings. @_@ So many repairs, and she still sits stock... ((Aside form evo wheels. ^_^ ))

pull the driveshaft off and make sure its neutral. aka no weight on the bushings. and fill it with silicone or equivilent.. it will fill the voids and make it stiff again.

I mean the bushings holding the carrier bearing to the body is shot. XD I am of the mindset when I go to upgrade, I want to do everything at once. IE when I get the trans rebuilt, so does the transfer case, the differential, and the driveshaft get refurbished all at once.

That said, i gotta swing by the dealer to get the bushings and powersteering kit. @_@
