The car will be in the grass, will a tarp be good enough so moisture wont rust underneth or should i buy some gravel?

thanks

With the car sitting, you shouldnt have to worry much about rust on the undercarrige. Keep it off those salty ass NY roads and you will be fine.

Dont use a tarp over the car because that will retain moisture and promote oxidation. Use a car cover that can breathe if you are going to store it outside. Be sure to clean and wax it thoroughly before covering it. The damage doesnt come from the snow or ice, it come from snow and ice making direct contact to the paint and any dirt or sediment on the surface of the paint. This effectively converts ice to sand paper.

as long as when it snows you pull the snow from around the car so moisture can escape. you shouldnt need a tarp but a breathable car cover would be fine

Last year i did that, i had nothing underneath and cleared the snow and now their is some rust. so you do think a tarp underth the car would be ok or should i get gravel??

If it's only for four months, call up one of the hauling companies and they can drop of a 10X20 shipping container. It's about $60 a month. Bee-Line is one of the ones around here. When spring arrives, just call them to pick it up. Totally water proof.

If that's overkill, then drive over a tarp pull up the corners and then put another tarp over the car. Try to keep it out of direct sunglight and make sure no water can get in there and you should be fine. If water does get in there, then you were better off just covering the top of the car so it can still breathe underneath.

With the freight container, you could even do some work to it in the middle of a snowstorm. Just don't run it while your in there, we'll be reading about you in the paper...
:)

Just get a nice heavy duty sheet of plastic to put under it, it will work just as good, if not better then the tarp & cost much less. I park mine indoors on a concrete floor & I still put a plastic sheet under it, though I might be abit more anal then most ROFL

That's what I am saying - you are all about paying for gravel, tarps, car covers, etc... Just rent a U-Haul for $30/month for the next few months. No problems.

I think that a tarp will be fine. I have had first hand experience with this becuase I live in Michigan. I covered my car with a tarp one winter and it withstood the winter. The underbody of the car was fine. Just make sure that it isn't a skimpy tarp.

Wait a minute here, where are you getting a U-Haul for $30/month?!?!?!?! WTF

I just rented a 20' U-Haul 3 weeks ago when I moved into my new house and it was about $30/day. Who knew I could get one for $1/day.

Put the car on ramps(in gear and parking brake on) no snow will get on the car. Then put a car cover on the car that tucks underneath the skirts and bumpers and you will have no problem. About not putting the car in direct sunlight is gonna be tough because there are no trees with leaves so you cant put it there so if you have like a tent type thing. I would set it up and put it under that but i dont think it would really matter either way as long as you have it covered. Good luck...and If you really want to get crazy get gravel but grass should be fine.

If you mow the grass down to the ground, you shouldn't need gravel.

Even if it was down to dirt, doesnt moisture still rise, last year when it was outside the grass was very short and it rusted underth then i put a tarp.

Most self storage places around here will charge around $45 a month for a single garage bay. I'd do that over a tarp or parking it outside. I know with Michigan winters once you cover it, you won't be able to get to it very easily after the snow starts building up.

But then again, I just drive mine in the winter.

I am speaking of the U-Haul Mini-Storage things, not the trucks :)
